17. depends on who you ask
According to one priest you can have sex with a married person without committing adultery. They are committing adultery, but you are not. Kirk Cameron, OTOH, uses the Carter verse, Matthew 5:28 - "I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

It's kinda hard to avoid "thoughtsin". Previous to that Jesus says that anyone who is angry with their brother (and brother is probably widely used to mean 'fellow human') will be subject to judgement, as if anger is equivalent to murder.

Also, you can have idols, without really making one - by idolizing an activity, such as DU, which is taking away from your praying and Bible reading that you should be doing, you apostate :spank: or by idolizing a person like Barack Obama, who clearly would be the greatest President evah.

My wife is Jewish and I'm Presbyterian. Folks have asked, "What religion are you going to raise the kids?" To which I would answer, "American Materialism, of course"

Protestants, riding their hell-bound train:

5=Honor Mom & Dad
7=No Adultery
8=No Stealing

18. What are they again?
I am sure I've broken that one about the lord's name in vain. I've never murdered anyone or worshipped false gods (I don't worship any gods though, so that may be technically considered breaking the commandments). I do try to love my neighbor/fellow man, but there are a couple of people out there on my eternal shit-list.

I can't remember the rest!

20. Let's see...
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me.

Athiest, here. No prob!

You shall not make for yourself an image, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Does the FSM count? I think I'll play the athiest card again and say I'm safe here.

You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.

Sweet bald-headed Jesus! Yep, I think I've broken this one on many occasions.

Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work. But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it.

Not only have I worked on the sabbath, but I have failed to prevent the alien residents of my town from working on the sabbath. Let's mark this one broken.

Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

Well, we all have our occasional blow-ups, but I think I'm OK on this one over the long run.

You shall not murder.

Not done!

You shall not commit adultery.

Getting personal, are we? It depends on what definition of adultery you are using, so let's mark this down as a "maybe" and leave it at that.

You shall not steal.

Does it count if you were a kid and you stole things like street signs and beer from people's back porches? I guess it does. Mark it broken.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Not done!

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

I'm not clear on the whole "covet" thing. If you define it simply as "desire", then I'm guilty from the wife on down to the donkey. If, as some definitions say, it is wrongful desire, then I'm confused because I don't understand how you can desire wrongly. Either you do, or you don't.

Grand total: at least three, possibly as many as seven. :wow:

23. Am I evil? Yes I fucking am......
.....broken every one...even murder according to the fundie definition of unborn fetus.

My mother was a witch, she was burned alive.
Thankless little bitch, for the tears I cried.
Take her down now, don't want to see her face
All blistered and burnt, can't hide my disgrace.

Twenty-seven, everyone was nice.
Gotta see 'em make 'em pay the price.
See their bodies out on the ice.
Take my time.

Am I evil? Yes I am.
Am I evil? I am man, yes I am.

As I watched my mother die, I lost my head.
Revenge now I sought, to break with my bread.
Taking no chances, you come with me.
I'll split you to the bone, help set you free.

Twenty-seven, everyone was nice.
Gotta see 'em make 'em pay the price.
See their bodies out on the ice.
Take my time.

Am I evil? Yes I am.
Am I evil? I am man, yes I am.

On with the action now, I'll strip your pride.
I'll spread your blood around, I'll see you ride.
Your face is scarred with steel, wounds deep and neat.
Like a double dozen before ya, smells so sweet.

Am I evil? Yes I am.
Am I evil? I am man.

I'll make my residence, I'll watch your fire.
You can come with me, sweet desire.
My face is long forgot, my face not my own.
Sweet and timely whore, take me home.

Am I evil? Yes I am.
Am I evil? I am man.

My soul is longing for, await my heir.
Sent to avenge my mother, sweep myself.
My face is long forgot, my face not my own.
Sweet and timely whore, take me home.

Am I evil? Yes I am.
Am I evil? I am man.

Am I evil? Yes I fucking am.
Am I evil? I AM MAN, yeah.

if you've ever lusted after a married person- you're guilty. (some are easier to break than others- especially the ones that just require an errant thought.

and if you've ever watched tv at a time when you should be at church, worshipping and genuflecting(to be generous, let's just limit it to sunday before noon)- you got yourself an idol.

45. Let's count them off, one by one. I've violated all 11
1. 2I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; 3you shall have no other gods before me.
I had a stint with Wicca during my rebellious younger days. Today I tend to put science before religion. I'm pretty sure that counts as a violation.

2. 4You shall not make for yourself an image, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
I love photography. Lots of graven images in the form of earthly objects there.

3. 5You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, 6but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Whoops, I was raised Catholic. Lots of idol praying there.

4. 7You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.
Aww goddammit, why can't I ever remember this one?

5. 8Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy. 9Six days you shall labor and do all your work. 10But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. 11For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it.
Damn, I mowed the lawn last Sunday. I'm going to hell!

6.12Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
God obviously never met my mother.

7. 13You shall not murder.
I've always had fun with this one. The Bible says elsewhere that even THINKING about committing a sin is the same as actually committing it. That particular verse was about adultery, but he who has sinned in his heart is already a sinner...or somesuch nonsense. If Republicans count as a race, then I'm a genocidal maniac by Biblical standards :)

8. 14You shall not commit adultery.
The Bible defines adultery as any sex outside of wedlock. What do YOU think?

9. 15You shall not steal.
Guilty. Nothing serious, but it's a pretty cut and dried commandment.

10. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Uhhh, yeah. I have NEVER lied in my life. Heh.

11. 17You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
What can I say? My neighbor has a nice house, and his wife has a nice ass.

For those that are wondering, the 11th commandment is an attempt to get them all in. The actual commandments aren't numbered in the Bible, so Protestants, Jews, and Catholics tend to divide them up differently. When you try to include all of the divisions recognized by the different religions, you end up with 11 commandments.

47. Those are just suggestions aren't they?
I always envied my Catholic friends when I was young they could do anything and get forgiven for it and they would tell me I was going to Purgatory because I wasn't forgiven. I am not a religious person now but I always thought the Catholic religion was kind of neat that way. I went to a Catholic funeral service last year and right next to the Rosary Beads were 50/50 tickets, people in my parents Presbyterian church would have a stroke if they saw that.

50. Let's go through the list:
Other Gods: Maybe. I used to be a Christian so I did put Jesus above Jehovah. Metaphorically I put a lot of things before God, especially after becoming an atheist.

Graven images: bizzillions of 'em. Especially taking the harsh view that any image is a graven image. We used to do the Pledge at school. Arguably the flag is a graven image as it is a worshipped symbol for the nation.

Name of Jehovah in vain: What's in vain? If it means using it as an interjection, then yeah, I say goddammit all the time. Jesus Christ almight! does not mention "the LORD" which is a synonym for the God of the OT. I never claim to be acting on behalf of Jehovah, though.

Sabbath: oh, yeah. More in the past than now is Sunday is the Sabbath. Well, I never go to church and I spend money at businesses on Sunday (making them work).

Honoring mother and father: Again, what's "honoring"? Don't embarrass them? (Tribal shame thing?) Obey them? Think nice thoughts about them? Take care of them when old? Well my mother drives me nuts if I let her and I sure have pissed her off, sometimes on purpose.

Adultery: Well, I "lived in sin" before marriage. Any sex outside of marriage is adultery under OT definitions.

Killing: The KVJ says "kill" which can be anything from accidents to self defense to slaughtering food animals. I arguably applies to plants. NIV says "murder" which means the unlawful killing of a human with malice aforethought. It excludes war, execution, abortion, self defense and of course all animals. Well, I've killed animals but never a person. Notice this is #7 on the list. Rape and battery are nowhere on the list.

Steal: I demur.

False Witness: I'm probably lied about someone at some time, but I really don't remember when. Never knowingly spoke falsely when it mattered.

Coveting: Well, not really. Never been desireous of something that belongs to someone else. I've certainly though "She's a MILF" but was never serious about it. I have been angered by inequity, but I think that is different.
