My son's history teacher is an idiot and it's really bothering me.
I suppose I should get a sense of humor about this except I don't think my son's teacher was joking.

He gave the kids a test yesterday so they could determine where they fit on the political compass. One of the questions was -

Who would you rather have lunch with 50 Cents (and yes he said Cents) or Clint Eastwood?

On the answer sheet, if you chose 50 Cent you were a liberal. The reason was because 50 Cent has a violent past.

I don't know how a teacher could promote this stupidity.

1. Didn't "50 Cents" take Bush's side over the Katrina mess?

yet another article about his admiration for the president

He says, "(The president) is incredible... A gangsta. I wanna meet George Bush, just shake his hand and tell him how much of me I see in him." http://www.publicenemy.com/pb/viewtopic.php?t=22241&sid=1

I wasn't dreaming it, Fiddy has Republican leanings...and yet I'd still rather have lunch with Clint Eastwood

3. well, that's the other thing, I think more 15 year olds would know
who 50 Cent is than would know who Clint Eastwood is.

12. And then there are statements like this...
“I ain’t into faggots. I don’t like gay people around me, because I’m not comfortable with what their thoughts are. I’m not prejudiced. I just don’t go with gay people and kick it - we don’t have that much in common. I’d rather hang out with a straight dude. But women who like women, that’s cool.”

“It’s OK to write that I’m prejudiced. This is as honest as I could possibly be with you. When people become celebrities they change the way they speak. But my conversation with you is exactly the way I would have a conversation on the street. We refer to gay people as faggots, as homos. It could be disrespectful, but that’s the facts.”

2. I'd suspect he's racist to boot.
Given Eastwood and Fity both project the same image.

4. My question is...
Why would he want to know? What is the point?

I say bring this up to the principle. If he won't listen, the school board. If that fails, the media.

7. Well there are a lot of political issues in history...
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 02:47 PM by primate1
So it could be a way of getting them to understand different political viewpoints. My Philosophy of Liberalism (market/economic liberalism) professor a few semesters ago had us take the politicalcompass.org quiz to demonstrate to the less initiaed the left and right divisions and how they relate to social authoritarianism and libertarianism.

9. That's what I asked my son. He said they are doing a chapter on
politics and that's why they did this quiz.

10. They did that one also. In fact my husband and I did it with my son
last night. Maybe this is a good thing if my son can tell the difference between a useless survey and one that might have more accurate results.

6. Yeah, your son's teacher is an idiot.
The only time I ever had to take a political compass test like that was in poli-sci in high school, and even then the questions were a lot more intelligent.

11. He even screwed up on the answer key - said liberals were in
favor of a constitutional amendment to ban burning the flag.:eyes:

Oh and if you watch The OC you're a liberal, but if you watch Law and Order you're a conservative.

15. Geez, that is idiotic
50 is a stupid and ignorant thug who, having rode the vagaries of the pop entertainment world to wealth, appears to not give a flying fuck about anything or anybody except his money.

Eastwood is a legendary and iconic actor, one of the best living American directors, and a huge jazz fan. I don't think I'd have too much trouble deciding who I'd rather have lunch with.

Plus, picking Eastwood as the standard bearer for Hollywood Conservatism is kinda dumb too. He's more conservative than most of us here, but he seems to be a small-goverment, small-l libertarian type. I doubt he has much liking for the unholy alliance of fundies, imperialists and corporate thieves that have been running the Republican party for the last 25 years.

equate Eastwood with Dirty Harry means that he hasn't got a violent image?
