Who has seen "Calendar Girls?" |
|
Mrs. V. & I took our elderly friend Doris to see it last night. It was a really good film. Not uproariously funny, but the humor was terrific. Not too maudlin. Not terribly predictable. Julie Walters (who shares my birthday) was fabulous and Helen Mirren was great, too.
The film's message isn't obnoxious; you're not beaten over the head with it, but it's clear, and it makes everything work.
One of the film's big plusses is that it did not contain the song by Neil Sedaka -- this movie wasn't the place for it.
I highly recommend "Calendar Girls" to anyone looking for a tender, funny, moving film.

I'm the same age group as these gals, and I come from Yorkshire. I love Helen mirren and Julie Waters, so it's a must see for me.

...the sunflower was a symbol in the film. I'm suddenly crazy about sunflowers.
