Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 06:01 PM by trof
Just now on CNN.
Should this be in LBN?
;-)

She's coming in May.
The big question is...
WHY?

On edit: Oh...THE queen.
Of England and the rest of that stuff.

3. Her Majesty is more forgiving than I would be.
Remember when shithead visited Britain several years ago...stayed at Buckingham Palace and his entourage did some damage to the Palace grounds? I'd never forgive him for that kind of rudeness.

6. I'm sure Blair put her up to this
Poor Queen. The best we can hope for is that Georgie won't talk with his mouth full and won't start throwing food around. OMG, I hope he doesn't decide to try out one of his fart jokes. :eyes:

11. And I'd still rather have her as Head of State
than that crass, disgusting, embarrassing, piece of shit we're saddled with right now. And speaking of piece of shit, his family isn't slack in the disfunctional department.

13. I agree, a monarchy would be nice
I mean Canada turned out just fine. But it's too late now I guess.

And the Hanovers did not usurp the throne. That is absolute rot. George I was the nearest living relative.

17. He was the nearest living Protestant relative.
Anne's nearest living relative at the time of her death was her half brother, James, The Old Pretender, but he, of course, was Catholic and banned from the succession by 1701 Act of Succession.

18. She was a crass, hateful woman, Queen Anne
I read a lot of 17th century books, being quite a fan of biographies from that period. Queen Anne was particularly vile, the way she treated her own father.
I wasn't a jacobite until I discovered just how much anti-catholic hysteria there was in England and how they overthrew a King who believed in religious tolerance. I've heard that over 50(??) catholics were passed over to get to George I.
I resent that the Windsors are in charge. I have no person animosity towards the Queen, she seems a decent sort, but the rest of them are cheap, shallow, and don't want to do anything of consequence with their lives.

19. They didn't deserve it......there were dozens of people ahead of them.
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 07:39 PM by Darth_Kitten
George I was an abusive husband who kept his poor wife locked up in a castle for over 30 years, didn't speak a word of english, and had his mistresses loot England.

But at least he wasn't catholic. ;) :eyes:

16. Wasn't that a great film?
Helen Mirren might as well just pick up the Best Actress Oscar right now. A magnificent performance. The actor who played Tony Blair looked exactly like him. The resembalance was uncanny.

When "The Queen" comes out on DVD, it will be a must buy. :-)

:hi:, tigereye.

26. made me want to run over to England!
I liked that it was sympathetic to both sides of the argument.

I also like Blair's wife- she sounds pretty cool. I liked Blair a lot, too, until Bush got hold of him.

22. After a bottle or two Chimpy will sing to her:
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl,
but she doesn't have a lot to say
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
but she changes from day to day

I want to tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a bellyful of wine
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
Someday I'm going to make her mine, oh yeah,
someday I'm going to make her mine.

25. I'm hoping she gets to have this exchange with *
(background -- during a royal visit when Bush I was in office, "Dubya" got tanked and snuck past his mom, to accost the Queen: "I'm the black sheep of the family. Who's your black sheep?")

Now that the genealogists have been at work (* is reportedly a distant cousin of the Queen) ... she can reply,
"We've checked. It's still you."
