My cat has a growth in his mouth |
|
I just took Chester to the vet. He's getting his teeth cleaned tomorrow, and she wanted to check him out beforehand.
Anyway, we've been noticing a very stinky odor (more so than just normal "cat breath") for a while. then two weeks ago, we saw that he'd chewed on some paper (he loves to do that) and left blood on it.
She looked in there and found this fairly large growth under his tongue. Apparently, there is a tooth that needs to be extracted nearby, and maybe that could cause this growth? He's getting the lump biopsied tomorrow along with his cleaning.
Does anyone have any experience with situations like this? I admit that I'm a little nervous about it. Thanks! :hi:

1. I was going to say that... |
|
...if the growth squeeks when you prod it it's called a mouse. :)
Seriously though, the only thing I can tell you is wait for the results adn try not to panic. Most growths are benign.

but I lost a dog to mouth cancer this year. Several of the same symptoms you have mentioned. I hope the best for you, but be prepared anyway.

5. Ooh -- hope Chester comes through okay. |

Just had a cat in the week before Christmas to have a bunch of teeth pulled. Doodle has the sorriest immune system ever in a cat, I think there were nutritional deficits starting long before she was born. Her mother was probably a stray, and she definitely was -- she came up to us when we were visiting my mom on Thanksgiving a few years ago, she was about six months old. Mom was going to call animal control on her, she said Doodle had been killing birds at her bird feeder. Needless to say, we took her in. Lucky she got to be a full-time house cat -- I doubt, with her constitution, she'd have lasted a year on the economy.
She's always had skin problems, and now apparently she has something vets call 'neck lesions' -- her immune system thinks her teeth are a foreign substance and attacks them, that's the short version. The gums actually invade the teeth and her body resorbs them. She went in to have two teeth pulled and lost six because the roots were compromised. She's four and a half, and the vet said she probably won't make six with any of her teeth left.
No growths in her mouth, though. Wish I could offer you more there, but I'm not familiar with what things grow in cats' mouths -- seething cauldrons of bacteria that they are. Best wishes for Chester, though -- hope it's benign and abscess related, and that they can take care of it when they pull the tooth.

7. One of Female's fangs is longer than the other |

and it seems to be still growing.
I wonder what the vet can do about it? File it down?
They can't pull it.

10. My neighbor's cat had stinky breath and a growth... |
|
and I hate to say this, but her cat perished in about 2 weeks. A very fast-growing cancer that they were unable to operate on. In your cat's case, it truly could be anything, esp. if he's got a bad tooth, but it could also be bad news. Give your baby some extra loving just in case...

My own sweet Chester died just before Thanksgiving. He was 16. No cancer, though.
