What is the name of the "main street" near your house?
By "main street" I mean the one where the gas station is, the one where a Starbucks or a movie theater is. The one you always tell people when giving them directions to your house. In my case, it's Adams Avenue.

1. Um...Main Street.
Although Meridian Avenue comes close to being the "real" main street in town.

If a person can't find 111 Avenue in this city, they are hopeless. You may as well just go find them and have them follow you.

Nope ... just Rte. 107. Gas stations, but no Starbucks for about 40 miles. The movie theater is a little closer than the Starbucks, but it's not on a street near my house.

15. They are two entirely different entities
The one that I'm right near - a main thoroughfare - doesn't have a Starbucks or movie theatre.

The 'main street' with the Starbucks et al is a bit farther away. That would be Whyte Ave.

28. Overseas Highway
or US 1. Take your pick. And we go by mile markers down here, An address might read like, MM 104.5 Overseas Highway. And then when you tell that to someone on the mainland, they will inevitably say, "That's not an address; that's a radio station." To which a Keys Conch will inevitably answer, "Yeah, ha ha, never heard that one before."

35. It's called "Kanan Road"
The Kanan Family were early settlers in the area. When I first moved here in 1979, there were still two elderly Kanan sisters who operated a small restaurant. One of them, Judy, was murdered in 1983. Not sure if the crime was ever solved. Kanan Road winds through the Santa Monica Mountains and ends in Malibu.

44. Real name of road: Harry Truman Road...
the name I give to others, Cave Springs. OK, this is confusing, this is the main road for a very simple reason, it intersects Highway 70, and is a pretty big, 4 lane street. However, on the NORTH side of the Highway, its called Harry Truman Road, on the SOUTH side of the highway, its called Cave Springs Road. The reason is simple, St. Charles Missouri names the street one name, St. Peters names it another. For some reason, the exit sign for I-70 names it as Cave Springs only. Now, there is another highway, State Highway 370, which parallels I-70 on the North, so its exit is ONLY called Harry Truman Road.

Enchanted Parkway.

it's not actually as magical as it sounds. It doesn't live up to it's name.

100. Kalakaua Avenue
not the fancy stretch in Waikiki but the fairly crummy stretch across the Ala Wai canal, home to a fabric shop, a pawn shop (er, "estate jewelry"), and yes, a massage parlor.

It is named for the last ruling King of Hawai'i, H.H.M. David Kalakaua:

first ruler to circumnavigate the globe, and had electricity installed in 'Iolani Palace years before a certain building at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW had it. His sister Lil'uokalani succeeded him; she was the one who was overthrown in 1893.

105. Washtenaw Ave
If you go right, it eventually turns into Huron St., if you go left, it becomes Stadium Blvd. The three encircle the town.
