I now have glasses.
As my computer is stupid, there will be no pics.

But I've known I've had vision problems over the years. I went in to go get my eyes checked and I have 20/50 vision, and I'm nearsighted. We went to the glasses shop, picked out the frames, and now I can see!

They're beautiful big, boxy glasses. If anyone keeps up with the time, they're emo glasses.

I feel like such a nerd.

7. Cool!
I like those. If they didn't look ridiculous on me I'd own a pair, too!

3. I am nearsighted also.
I have been wearing glasses since I was 10 years old.

They may seem strange at first but you will get used to them.:toast:

4. There are DU men who will assure you that chicks with glasses are toooooooooo cute!
I can attest that glasses are no impediment to one's social life.

You were plenty cute before, and I'm betting your new glasses did nothing but improve on that.

6. GREETINGS.
Live long and prosper.

I feel like a failure as a nerd, because, although I got great grades and never had a social life, I do not know how to modify the font here, nor do I know how to photoshop a picture of the Vulcan salute.

8. I've had them since organic chem in college
when I couldn't tell a single bond from a double bond the professor wrote on the blackboard.

I've had bifocals for about 6 years -- a teaching job did that to me, all the looking up and looking down drove me nuts so I finally gave in. I admit it -- I'm old, or just feel that way when I say I wear bifocals.

They came in handy though -- one of my students was studying Ben Franklin in history and had listed as one of his inventions bifocals. She is from Vietnam and had no clue about what bifocals are so I let her check mine out. Not really chemistry but what the heck.

10. i recently got glasses for watching tv...
while most people seem to need glasses for reading as they age, i'm going the other way. i noticed that it was getting harder and harder to read the graphics on the tv screen from across the room- they were getting fuzzier and blurrier. being a red-blooded american male, naturally my first instinct was that a larger more "high-definition" viewing experience was required...(i made some nice built-in living room shelves out of an un-necessarily and uselessly long coat closet- and our 37-inch sony(from ebay) is the largest they will accomodate- and we only have one wall that will fit a flat-panel which we can't afford anyway and would also require a very strange furniture configuration to accomodate viewing and besides i'm waiting for the next generation carbon-fiber screens to come out in a year or two hopefully)...my wife thought that a visit to the eye doctor might be 'more prudent- at this juncture'...

long story short(ish)- i got some specs(at age 45 my first pair), and now when i watch the tube, it's so f*cking sharp and clear, that comparitively it seems like we DID get a high-definition set.

i went with the wire rims...the optician lady was trying to push bi-focals on me- but since i don't need any glasses for close-up stuff, the second part would be just plain, not an actual lens- that option made about zero sense to me, and i got a pair just for when i want them...watching tv and/or driving at night.

12. I've had glasses since I was 16...
I went to the eye doc and when he tested me, it turned out I had 20/200 vision. They were amazed that I was doing so well in school because there was no way I could see the chalkboard or anything. Now 7 years later my prescription is about 20/450...it just keeps getting worse. Even corrected I'll never be better than 20/40
