What's embarrassing about your state?
I'm from Wisconsin, and in the last two months we've had stories about young men digging up a corpse to have sex and now another one having sex with road kill (deer). Neither is illegal, but you wouldn't think it would need to be...

And along the same lines, Sensenbrenner was re-elected.

There's, of course, absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about in Kansas, and too much to list about Misery.

8. Vile Kyl, McCain, Sheriff Joe
and his pink underwear edict. Arizona's the dumbest state and near the bottom in education funding. Charter schools are huge here and that takes away from public school funding. And how can a kid who speaks Spanish only be expected to master biology or chemistry or history or literature in an English only system? It sucks.

17. Arizona and Connecticut have plenty to be embarassed about.
AZ: Jon Kyl, John McCain, Sheriff Joe, and formerly, JD Hayworthless. Also a lot of gun nuts, cowboys, racists and dumb binge-drinking college kids (at ASU, anyway). The city of Phoenix and suburbs are all terribly planned and feature everything you don't want in a city while having very little that is desirable.

CT: Joe Lieberman, John Rowland (until recently), Ann Coulter, the Bush family, and a bunch of stuck up cliquish blue-bloods who wouldn't know human decency if it bit them in the ass. While Eli Whitney's cotton gin was a notable invention, the result was increased perpetuation of slavery. Yay.

22. Norm Coleman as Senator, Tim Pawlenty as governor
and most embarrassing as all, fundie bubblehead Michelle Bachmann represeting our sixth Congressional district.

That's Minnesota, in case you haven't guessed.

Oh, and our concelaed carry law, which requires businesses to allow concealed weapons unless they specifically post a sign to the contrary at their entrance and which in its original form didn't allow houses of worship to ban fire arms at all. (So, in other words, if some bozo wanted to enter a Quaker meetinghouse with weapons, they couldn't refuse him.)

Then there's the last state legislature, which left many pressing problems unsolved but found time to pass a law permitting the hunting of mourning doves.

29. Michigan..Under the Oaks
http://www.jacksonmich.com/markers/mark1.htm

"Under the Oaks"

the First Republican Convention
Jackson, Michigan 1854

On July 6, 1854, a state convention of anti-slavery men was held in Jackson to found a new political party. "Uncle Tom's Cabin" had been published two years earlier, causing increased resentment against slavery, and the Kansas-Nebraska Act of May, 1854, threatened to make slave states out of previously free territories. Since the convention day was hot and the huge crowd could not be accommodated in the hall, the meeting adjourned to an oak grove on "Morgan's Forty" on the outskirts of town. Here a state-wide slate of candidates was selected and the Republican Party was born. Winning an overwhelming victory in the elections of 1854, the Republican party went on to dominate national parties throughout the nineteenth century."

Bridges to Nowhere, anyone? A governor who appoints his daughter to take his place in the US Senate? How about a brand new governor who told one rally that she is "moderately" pro-choice, and another that she would sign a law like the one in South Dakota?

How about aerial wolf hunting, despite the voters going to the polls TWICE to ban it?

I really wouldn't live anywhere else; it's beautiful and the wilderness is close. But I wish the repukes from Outside who came up during pipeline construction would take the bigotry, "christian" hard right views, and racism back where they came from!!

58. OK. I win. Or lose, I guess...
I live in the reddest state in the country - Georgia. We have Sonny Perdue as governor and Saxby Chambliss as senator. And that's just the tip of our horrendous Republican iceberg. This state is crawling with rightwing, fundie cockroaches. We'd have Ralph Reed as Lt. Governor now if Jack Abramoff hadn't intervened. I'm in a blue district with Dem. Hank Johnson as my rep, (formerly Cynthia McKinney's district). But our little blue enclaves can;t complete with the red plague devouring our state. And, of course, we have Zell Miller who proclaimed in his ads for Sonny Perdue that "Georgia is the envy of the nation". Really? In what respect? Our substandard test scores? Our high infant mortality rate? Our status as having the highest rate of obesity? Just saying "Zell Miller" should settle the question. (and don't forget the infamous Bob Barr.)

Also...Dennis Hastert. Thankfully these are only one district apiece.

My home state of New Mexico has its douchebags (I live amidst many of them), but they're less of a national problem and more of a local infestation. :)

Now, i live in DC, which really isn't a state, and the most embarrassing thing is when the police arrested all these people in Pershing Park in 2002, including some nurses who were attending a convention. Hopefully our new mayor, Adrian Fenty, will ax Charles Ramsey.

but not specifically to have sex with it- fortunately there was a cement slab between the young men and the object of their desire. Our state legislature will probably make a law regarding this just because we have so many people lacking good sense.

:hi: I live in Delaware. That's right, the good ol' First State. "The Small Wonder" State. Our state is so small that people who didn't pay attention in Social Studies think that we are part of Philadelphia!!! How can a state be in a city??? I'm still trying to figure that one out.
The other things that are embarrassing about the State of Delaware:
1. Thomas Capano: You can guess why!!!
2. Amy Grossberg & Brian Peterson: It has been 10 years since they threw away their son!!!
These are what is embarrassing about The State of Delaware, the first state. :hide:

Republican Ehrlich's latest claim to fame is hiring homeless men from Philadelphia to distribute flyers at the polls in Prince Georges County on election day claiming that he is actually a Democrat and was being supported by prominent Democrats in Prince Georges County, which just happens to be majority black. No racism there, no siree! Nice to see a politician that respects the intelligence of the voters. Fortunately it didn't work - he still lost, but you can still blame him for trying.
