Word from the wise: Do not rub your eyes after you chop a jalapeno. |
|
Yeah, I was the foolish lady running to the bathroom this evening. I thought I had rinsed my hands after doing this! I suppose it wasn't enough
Mr. Writer dumped water on my face over the sink and I tried my best to blink. Not until I shot cold water from the shower nozzle did the stinging go away.
Mr. Writer just now: "Now that you've experienced that, imagine what a habanero is like!"
:spank:

2. Rinsing your hands is NOT enough |
|
Next time, wear gloves. I kid you not. Either that or get someone else to do it for you. Every year I slice jalepenos for #1 son's tamales. My fingers burn for days. Literally. Rinsing, washing...they burn. And if I touch my mouth....
Gloves.

9. Milk will stop the pain. I rubbed my eyes once after chopping jalapenos. |
|
After several minutes of pain, I remembered that milk will neutralize the burning. I rinsed my eyes with cold milk and the pain went away instantly.
When I told my opthalmologist about it he said that was a good idea. Now I keep a box of exam gloves in the house and use them when I chop peppers.

10. Shouldn't that be 'word TO the wise?' |
|
Because the person who did this is perhaps not quite the embodiment of wisdom? :D

12. I did consider that idiomatic issue, but I came to the conclusion... |
|
that the experience made me all the more wiser, and I wished to impart that wisdom onto other folks.

if you plan on continuing breathing in a normal fashion. I once caused the evacuation of a restaurant kitchen with this maneuver.
The whole kitchen staff sat on the floor in the hall and coughed and cried for 20 minutes.

15. I once managed to contaminate BOTH eyes once |

That was most careless of me. I was effectively blind for a couple of minutes. I thought I was going to die from the pain. x(

23. Also, don't try eating a raw habanero unless you're into real pain |
|
There's a reason why tear gas is made from habanero peppers. Yours truly tried to eat a whole pepper once, but I was smart enough to keep a cheeseburger on hand to help soak up the oil. Still had to throw half the pepper away, though.

24. Don't handle plastic contact lenses either. |
|
You will have to throw them out. No amount of cleaning or soaking will make them right. Not sure about rigid glass, I don't know if they are even made anymore.
