It's Thanksgiving. We won't be spending it with friends or family. My husband is having chemotherapy tomorrow, so he won't be feeling too well on Turkey-Day. We'll have a quiet day of football-watching. I'll try to have him eat a bit - but I already know his appetite will not be there.
This marks the 9th year of his battle with the disease. His courage has amazed me. It has been a difficult time, but it also has not been the 'worst-case scenario'. He was given a few months to live 5 years ago and we are well past that.
Thanksgiving won't be a sad day - rather, a joyous one as we are spending it together.
We had a Dr. apt. today and it occurred to me how much Dr. Irwin has become a member of our family.
He is always upbeat and supportive. We've learned that he's an avid reader and has a fondness for gardening. He has 2 young children (whom he adores). It's always a joy to see his face light up when he begins to discuss the book that is his current 'read'. Right now it's Milton's "Paradise Lost". He stated today how this is his favorite time of year - kids doing homework and himself by the fireside with a good book. He's looking forward to Thanksgiving - wife loves to cook and he loves to do the 'clean up'.
My hat is off to him. Despite the difficulties of his job he has always treated us courteously. You can't ask for more than that. I wish you all a 'Dr. Irwin' whenever you need one.
Thank You Dr. Irwin!!
