May I please say this on behalf of customer service agents everywhere? |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-24-06 08:51 PM by KC2
We are not your fucking punching bags.
We didn't do it.
We are not all stupid.
Some of us even have graduate degrees.
We get hearing loss when you yell at us.
Also, just because you ate too much, spent too much time cooped-up with the in-laws, and are probably frustrated (in every way humanly possible) do not take it out on the next person you happen to speak to. Please.
And, I believe, there is an expression about getting more with honey than vinegar out there...somewhere...isn't there?
Gawd....I swear, one day, they are going to fire me because I am going to scream back...very loudly!
Can someone please go into work tomorrow for me?

All kidding aside, how do you like taking photos for a living? Seems like it would be great...but a lot more work than people think, I bet.

I am extremely patient. You have to be. Just sitting there...waiting...for that 2 year old...to get over their temper tantrum! Or waiting for the dog to behave while praying that the dog doesn't bite you (yes, I was bit in the face once during a portrait sitting).
Other than that, it isn't too bad. It is just big time customer relations every day!

it didn't break the skin. However, the customer said to me after the dog bit me "Oh, I forgot to tell you, she has been doing that lately". After all of that, she decided that she didn't like any of the photos that I took. I was so pissed off that I threw them in the garbage right in front of her. Needless to say, she never returned.

Try to stay calm. I remember being beat up royally by more than a few customers. You'll get through it. It's always rough at this season -- so much pressure to perform.
In peace,

As an owner/manager for five long fucking years. Seen and done it all. People don't care about small businesses...they only care about their pocketbook. I'm still trying to overcome hating people from my business experience. People only care about a $1 or so from their pocketbook. Tell me I'm wrong if you will, but, I've been there and I know. It sucks to have such a negative attitude about people but, people are cheap and don't care about anyone but themselves. That's my reality in owning a business. And that's unfortunately the truth.

My husband and I were determined to spread courtesy and good cheer. I gave in to my husband's newfound and nearly inexplicable desire to shop on Black Friday. We rose at 6AM, got our two children up and ready to go, and left the house at 7AM. Armed with coffees from Starbucks, we entered Target shortly thereafter.
My husband was not just polite to staff and fellow customers, he was downright cheerful, pleasant, and friendly. Taking my cues from him, when I unloaded our full cart, I set each product with the UPC code facing the checker so she didn't have to search for them. I smiled at her. I asked how she was. She smiled back at me. She noticed the UPC codes and thanked me. "That was so sweet of you!" she said.
My husband took the kids to the car while I paid for our purchases, largely because we didn't want them to see the two scooters we'd bought. The checker understood immediately what we were doing and carefully placed the scooters into opaque bags to hide them.
We had a pleasant experience there. Later, after a trip to Lowe's and haircut appointments for my daughter and me, we went to Best Buy. It looked as if every citizen of Boise were there. We picked out a TV (our reason for going there), and got into a line easily dozens of people long. The line went quickly. The people were friendly. We received a $25 gift card as a "bonus" for buying an out-of-box item. We were actually in and out of there in less than 40 minutes.
After Best Buy, we went home and made our favorite Thanksgiving leftovers sandwiches. It was nice.

I have this MOST EXCELLENT cognitive dissonance that would kick in, a thing for which I am forever grateful. I would just keep smiling, nearly maniacally. People would call me a dumb bitch and I would just smile away. People would liken my intelligence to that of a rotten banana, and I would just beam at them.
My response was always, "Okay." And then I would smile. Sans sarcasm. Mostly because this would so enrage customers that they would nearly pop their carotid artery right in front of me. They would try to get me riled up, and I would just keep smiling away.
I never let their crap get to me. People can really suck, but I let it roll off my back and maintained a healthy distance from the sassery. They are asses... try not to take it personal. Just smile away. Like a crazy, fucked up, terrifying clown.

Because I am SO important that a group of strangers would intentionally and covertly obstruct my every attempt to save three cents. Seriesly!

:pals: I hope people are nice to you tomorrow. My best advice is to act to do what you can to help people, because there will be someone that really appreciates it. The punishment for rude customers is that they have to be themselves.
