How can we stop the neighbor's kids from running their ATVs down |
|
our farm road? It's not really a road, just a mowed path that runs alongside the length of our woods. The kids runs their ATVs back and forth on it and turn it into a mud strip . We talked to the neighbor a year ago and have caught the kids several times and told them to stop. Why do people think that if a house is not in sight, the land belongs to everyone?

3. Can you improvise some kind of stop strip to flatten a few tires? |
|
I'm thinking a well-placed board with some long wood screws sticking out of it would solve your problem nicely.

Although my issue is "sorta the same, but different" -
I'm about ready to sit on my back porch with a shotgun, or a .22, and start picking off snowmobiling assholes going back and forth and back and forth and back and forth in my alley.

11. Is that in the city!?!?!? |
|
That's really outrageous. I'm ambivalent on the snowmobiles. I hate the idea of them running around my woods, but most of the time I can't hear the noise. WHen the snow is deep, they do make a path for us and the deer.

Except for me it's those little motor bikes that sound like chainsaws. The drug dealers in my neighborhood use them to get around quickly and cut through the alleys and driveways.

18. One more reason to legalize drugs, IMO |

I'll be glad when they sell pot at the convenience stores as long as the pot heads don't make me wait in line while they make their selection. It's got to be better than standing behind someone picking lottery numbers!

We can't fence the entire grounds, but we can fence the access point.

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with disabling those damned ATVs. They are a scourge.
Maybe the next time it happens, take the ATVs away from the kids and make them walk home, and have the parents come to pick up the rides.

I can easily do 50mph on my ATV. I ride on public land, but the thought of someone trying to take it away from me is just fucking laughable.

13. You have to be careful about how you go about this |
|
About 15 years ago more or less a local farmer stretched a steel cable across the road, a kid hit it at head level. He lived, but is a permanent veg now, his parents sued and won a hell of a big judgement. If you place any kind of barrier, I'd be sure to warn the parents that they are in place, I think I'd go so far as having them sign a warning notice of them.

15. Oh, I absolutely agree - that's why I hope the person who suggested |
|
spiking the path was joking. I was thinking more along the lines of 4 foot chicken wire stretched between two fence poles. More symbolic than anything. Maybe make it 3foot so the deer can hop over?

Whoever got the bright idea of letting kids use those things, anyway? I live near a park, and one day I saw a kid of about ten trying to run down other kids with one of those things. Cops don't care about it; believe me, I know. Some kids drive up and down our backstreet with them, going about 30 mph. (The speed limit is 20). And who the hell can afford giving their kid an ATV?
