Help me out with an email question?
Okay, so I'm trying to help my dh set up an email account. He's thinking that a web-based account is what wants. For years, my accounts have been school- and work-based, so I'm pretty out of the loop.

So, what is the best (free) place to get an account these days? We used to use a netscape address, but we don't even use netscape anymore.

gmail? (We don't have a mobile phone...)
.mac? (Does that cost?)

Can anyone help out a couple of email bumblers?

TIA!

I can send you an invite if you want.

.Mac is like $70 a year or something.

3. That would be great.
I'd really appreciate it--that would help me a lot.

(I don't have an extra $70! Stupid mac!)

2. Gmail is good, you don't need a mobile phone for it.

4. Thanks.
I guess the phone is just for getting the invitation code.

(Can you tell that I'm resisting getting a cell phone?)

6. No, the phone thing is just a feature they have so that cell phone users can check their email.
I don't have a cell phone either.

How'd you get the code to sign up? I wasn't able to do so--but Haruka3_2000 may be able to help me out with that.

:-)

edit: fixed spelling

8. Someone sends an invite to your current email address.
You click the link in the invitation that shows up to your current email address, and that takes you to a registration page.
