2. I've had it more days than not for the past week.
The last time we had a week or more of below freezing nighttime temperatures was in December of '89 and that was so rare people here still talk about it.

It was funny as hell, all the newscasts were telling people how to wrap their pipes and turn the water off at the main, because native Californians generally have no clue how to deal with cold weather (the people who live in the Sierras do, but that's about it.)

5. That seems so strange to me
I had to laugh about the newscasts telling people how to wrap pipes & turn off the water because the natives don't know how to deal with cold weather.

We get the same sort of newscast warnings here about driving in snow. We get ice every year but not much snow. People here can't drive in it. At all.

6. Y'all are cold.
I remember back in 1983 in December we had a whole month of 20 degree weather, talk about major problems.

Say warm.

We wiil have 4 nights of weather in the 30's but that isn't bad, no rain.

8. 1983 was a very cold year in Texas
I remember. The palm trees froze, people had water pipes breaking all over the place.

Our next door neighbor was away for the holidays. His pipes froze and he had icicles in the living room from floor to ceiling, and wall to wall carpeting buried under an inch of ice.

Ours was the only house for two blocks that still had running water. Our neighbors had to come by to get water, shower, and to cook.

and on New Year's Day (1984) the pipes froze and burst.....I felt so bad for her. Her ceiling needed replaced, the wall-to-wall needed replaced. They were newlyweds and did not need that to happen. :-(

Edit: poor grammar

7. did I ever tell you about my hometown?
When I was a teenager, my hometown broke it's record for most consecutive days where it did not get about freezing. The record was 70 something, and I was hoping to get to 100. It kinda sucked too because it got up to about 34 for ten minutes on the day that ended the streak, but then it was about -5 for the next two weeks. Those days could have been added to the record!!
