Creeped myself out:
The phrase "snubbed by his own puppet" in a Bush/Maliki GD thread made me think of this:

I never made it through that movie when I was a teen. Not sure if I could do it now.
:scared:

1. I never saw the film, but I recognize Mr. Hopkins.
I dislike puppets the same way I dislike clowns: powerfully.

3. Whatever the puppet's name was, Chucky had nothing on him.
I think my particular trauma came from how fond I was of my Charlie McCarthy doll as a kid.

"You mean they sometimes kill you?"

Have you got someone cuddly to take to bed tonight?

2. YIKES!!!! I remember that movie -
scared the crap outta me when I was a kid. :scared: :scared:

Abracadabra, I sit on his knee.
Presto, change-o, and now he's me!
Hocus Pocus, we take her to bed,
Magic is fun... we're dead.

4. Ahh! You know the poem!
Away from me! (runs to bedroom, jumps from doorway to bed without touching the ground, shutting off lightswitch in mid-flight)

5. ROFL!!!
I didn't KNOW it - remembered there was one and googled for it. Sorry I scared you! ;-) Now I'm trying to decide if I should add it to my Netflix queue and watch it as an adult, or just allow the memory of it to terrify me. :D

7. Seeing it again might be a kick.
As I recall, it had that very powerful '70s filmmaking vibe to it -- spare but heavy music, foreboding exterior shots, claustrophobic interiors. Same thing I recall when I think of the Omen or French Connection.

BTW, tell me about the picture in your avatar. It's so tiny, but I can see how cool it might be as a desktop image or little framed print? Where did you get it?

9. I think I'll have to see it again then.
Here's the link to the bigger pic of my avatar. It's two hands painted as the world. I thought it was really cool so I "borrowed" it to use as an avatar. :hi:

I saw it when it came out in 1978. I thought at the time "This Hopkins guy is amazing!"

EDIT: Poor Burgess Meredith :(

10. Hopkins should have been nominated for an Oscar.
That movie scared me to death and Hopkins was terrific. If I recall though, he was snubbed by the Academy that year. Right? :wtf:

13. Don't know about snubbed

Below the radar is probably more like it. He wasn't a big name then.

EDIT: Correction. Hopkins wan't a big American name then.

He was nominated for a Bafta and a Golden Globe for that film.

8. I haven't seen that movie in years,
but I just read the book about a year ago. Now I have to see it again to see how well it follows the novel.
