help - need some good book recommendations for my xmas list
Some of my favorites as a reference: Ellroy, Dostoevsky, Bukowski, Robbins, Bulgakov, Vonnegut, Marquez, but I'm always looking for some new faces. Read anything really good lately?

1. All dog lovers will appreciate "Marley and Me,"
by John Grohan. I am reading it now and have ordered it as a gift. It's been on the NY Times Best Seller list forever.

2. A little non fiction
I just got done with "The Great Mortality" by John Kelly. It's about the Black Death outbreak in 14th cen. Europe. Especially interesting consider the talk about the avian flu, SARS, and bio weapons over the last couple of years.

3. I'm reading Tropic of Cancer right now
So far I love it. You seem to like the same kind of books a me, but you've probably already read it.

4. Darn!
There's actually a Web page that does that - you find the authors you like and it shows you who else you might like. But I can't find it anywhere!

5. Is this it?
http://www.thisonenext.com

it doesn't take multiple integrate multiple authors/books, just one at a time, but I just found it by googling author book recommendation engine. From my first couple entries it seems pretty fruitful. thanks.

6. No...
From what I remember, it's all laid out in a big web and you put your cursor over authors you like and it shows you more. What you found works too though!

9. Found it!!
By using "author recommendation engine"

http://www.literature-map.com/

Put in a name and enter, then the closer the other names are to your first author, the more likely you are to like them too,

7. Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung
It's been out 20 years but it's one of those things I think everyone should read. Lester Bangs is the reason I never pursued a career as a rock critic. Everything that needs to be said about music has already been said by him.
