If you have any good vibes to spare, can I bum a few for JackMN?
I'm bringing him to the clinic at 2:00. Something is wrong with him, and I think something has been off, for awhile. I'm admittedly paranoid, and probably unnecessarily freaking out, but I can't help it. I've been trying to chalk up his odd (non)eating behavior to "toddler stuff," but it's gotten steadily worse over a period of months, and it's now to the point where he's barely eating anything at all, hasn't been for the past week or two; he's rather pale, limp, and lethargic (he hadn't been, until the last couple days,) he's signing that he "hurts," and I'm scared.

This is one of those parts of parenting that really sucks. I want the doctor to run bloodwork so I can quit worrying that he has leukemia (this is my biggest fear; it's more common among kids with Down's,) and I know he's going to tell me to calm down, but he is damn well going to do whatever I tell him, because my gut says we need to at least rule it out, so I can quit panicking about that thought. I hate this. I really, really hate it. I'm just sick to my stomach, worrying about him.

18. Thank-you, thank-you!
It's probably nothing major, maybe he's just coming down with something, and the poor eating is not as bad as it seems.

I keep running all these horrible scenarios through my mind, and I've spent much of the morning yelling at myself in my head to stop it, because it's only making things worse.

I lucked out that my sil is the appointment setter at the clinic, and got Jack in right away- it makes for that much less time to dwell on the "what-if's". I wish I weren't such a spaz!

31. 4 pm-ish update:
Jack fell asleep on the couch prior to his doctor visit, and was a *bit* better, when I brought him in. The doctor noted that when he was seen six months ago, he'd had a jump in weight considerably above his regular rate of growth, and he's now dropped back down to the precentile he'd been growing along, prior to that. He still thinks he's doing okay.

He thinks the fatigue (since it set in suddenly, despite the longer-term eating issues)is probably due to a bug, and Jack has started up with a bit of a cough, this afternoon, so I think he may be right. He isn't terribly concerned with his eating yet, but he'll be seeing him in a couple months or so, and if he's dropped further percentiles, he's going to refer us to an endocrinologist, to look into possible thyroid issues (very common with Down's).

He does NOT think there's cause to consider leukemia, since Jack's been (up until the last couple days) very physically active, and hasn't shown physical signs (bruising easily, blood clotting and healing issues, etc) that would likely be manifested, if that were going on. He did send us to the lab for some bloodwork (which my little buddy didn't even cry about!) They're going to check for anemia, because the Dr. and I both agreed that there was a possibility that he might have issues with that.

So basically, as long as he recovers pretty quickly from the fatigue and his eating picks up at least a bit, things should be okay. If not, I will be promptly returning to the office with him.

Thanks so much for the good thoughts. I was really in a bad place earlier, running every worst case scenario through my mind. I think I always feel that we've been *too lucky* with Jack's health, where the big stuff is concerned, and I'm always waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop. I feel alot better right now, and I'll feel even better once I get the boy to EAT something!

Love you guys!

46. Thank you for the update, Lara, and I'm so happy that what is going
on with Jack seems to be relatively mild, compared to what you feared it could be. I thnk that as parents, we cannot help but sometimes -- if not nearly always -- imagine the worst when something is wrong with our children. Thanks The Maker that this doesn't seem to be the case here.

More hugs for you and your sweet boy:

51. I was going to suggest anemia
since I had childhood issues with that as well. Mom told me that she had to suggest that to the clueless doctors, but that was long ago and far away, but the doc also had me checked for leukemia when I was about 17 or so.

Maybe you should watch "A Christmas Story" where the narrator says "In every house there's always one kid who will not eat."

But since he said "hurts" is there a possibility of teething issues? Or cavities?
