7. They don't get very big. 14 to 18" at the shoulder. We had one and she

was a howler. They can also be a bit stubborn. Marie (our beagle) decided she did not like the feel of grass on her paws and there fore decided to bark her head off constantly every time we let her out. When we let her in, she'd piddle and poop on the floor by the door. They are sweet but very trying dogs. They like to "get into" things...like pens.

they are very good companion dogs, they shed the usual amount for a short haired breed and they stay pretty darn cute!

9. Beagles don't get very big

My great-uncle had several over the years, and they're maybe 18" high and 2' long. Their only disadvantage is that they tend to put on weight easily if they don't get enough exercise or are overfed.

(By the way, the person who said "beaglet" meant a baby beagle, just like a piglet is a baby pig.)

Not to offend any Beagle lovers here but I would say no - the pup in this pic is cute because pictures are silent, Beagles are not.

Beagles can be great dogs but they have boundless energy, can be extremely stubborn, are dangerously smart (need an owner who's smarter than them) and can be very, very, very vocal.

They don't get very big. They do shed and their fur is like pine needles that doesn't just get "on" stuff, it gets "in" stuff which makes it hard to just dust or brush off.

Seriously, if you're considering one based on this pic, do your research. Cute is not always what it's cracked up to be.

The Beagle has a very good temper and gentle disposition. Beagles are intelligent, but are stubborn and may be hard to train due to their strong will, which is common in the breed because of its curiosity (especially for scents). However, if a newly-bought puppy has a dominant master in control, they can be easy to train and can obey basic commands. They are an especially loyal breed and are very friendly. A common misconception is that all Beagles howl incessantly. In reality, some are more vocal than others and some do not bark often at all. Puppies, however, will yelp and whine if left alone in a crate, kennel, or enclosed area such as a play pen. However, if a beagle incessantly barks, it is probably because it is not often corrected, and can take on the assumption that that type of behavior is acceptable. The breed has thousands of representatives and each has his or her own personality.
