Stupid sexist Target "gift guide."
We did a quick Target run. SO had to use the bathroom, so I played with the registry computer for a few minutes. They now offer "gift guides" -- suggestions for gifts, based on age and gender.

SO's daughter is 4. So, I clicked. Apparently, little girls must like princesses and My Little Pony.
Little boys get the option of dinosaurs, and robots and science toys. (Actually, little boys get to "shop by interests." Little girls don't get interests -- they get dolls. But they also get books, which boys don't.)

My SO's daughter likes princesses, My Little Pony (blech), dinosaurs, robots, science, dolls and books.

The adult selection is similar -- if I have any interest in home improvement or poker/rec room stuff, I need to be a man. But men don't get to sew or be artistic. (At least men and women both get to be gourmet cooks, wine enthusiasts and exercisers.)

1. Things don't change, do they.
I always thought fairy princesses were corny. I despised baby dolls.
Good thing I was born a girl, though, because I have zero interest in sports. What a travesty if I had been a boy who wasn't into sports!

2. I just tried the organizer at Amazon and it was the same BUT
I found a page for "curiosities" and the gift ideas are funny. I want several items on this page and there's something for every member of my family here. Still sexist but with a sense of humor.

6. I love the KitchenAid ad I received recently...
with a pic of a young woman hugging, yes, hugging her brand new mixer.

I guess guys don't cook unless they're getting paid at least twice as much as their female counterparts. :eyes:
