I got sent home from work today...
I slipped on water and fell at work Wednesday and had to have my knee x-rayed and my back was "strained". I was home yesterday and went back today but the occupational health nurse sent me back home since my back is still sore.
I took a percocet and am sitting here bored and sore. :(
It's not that I'm dying to go to work, I just feel like a loser when I don't.

What really sucks is that this is the second time that this has happened to me because the housekeeping equipment leaks water and nobody has done anything about it.

4. Hey, that stinks
How many people have to fall at work before they take care of the problem.

20. I don't know if anyone
else has fallen. Me - twice.
The ER nurse told me that she had a friend up on the floor who fell because they had mopped and not put signs up -
she broke her arm.

5. Oh crud... Feel better.

It is better that you rest though...and you're not a loser. I just went through practically having to tie my dad down to keep him from going to work with his kidney stone stent in.

Try and find a good movie and cuddle up on the couch...dozing in and out as the will takes you.

Some of us are hard to convince that it's okay to rest. Thanks for the support.

8. Did they "pee test" you?
My employer has started pee testing anyone who is hurt or has any kind of "incident" at the plant. A worker got done early but had been having pain in the elbow, they made him pee in a cup before they would look at it. A guy was sideswiped by a towmotor, they made HIM pee in a cup. Another guy I work with got some wire stuck in his finger and wanted the nurse to get it out with some tweezers, he had to pee in a cup before anything was done.
If that had happened where I work you would have had to pee before you went home.

I hate my employer.

14. Wow, that sucks!
They haven't started that at my job (yet). Luckily I fell in front of a bunch of people who clearly saw that there had been water one the floor. The housecleaner had just rolled by with his leaky machine apparently. They didn't notice the water before, but when I rather UN-gracefully slid on it there were a bunch of maintenance men standing there and I fell into the lounge door so a bunch of nurses came running out too.
The first time a guy was steam cleaning chairs in the hallway and the machine was apparently leaking out the back so when I walked past the same thing happened, but it was the end of the day and he saw the whole thing too.

24. This is a Union plant!
The workers are represented by the United steelworkers. They are going through contract negotiations right now so the company always screws with the workers (more than usual) during contract time. They sure like to have an adversarial relationship with their workers.

27. That happens where my SO works.
Get injured = pee test

Damage/destroy product = pee test

They drive forklifts with alarms, and I don't know if they still do this because my SO works in the office now (and thus never talks about the forklifts) but when he was driving them, if you bumped into something the alarm would go off. And only a lead or supervisor could turn it off, with a special key. Bump into something 3 times? = pee test.

13. Well make sure that you get compensation for it
it is a work related injury so you are entitled to some kind of money.

15. I work per diem.
So being out means I get NO money since I don't get sick time.
I was told that regular employees don't get anything until after 2 weeks.
I don't know what to do. I don't want them not to let me work anymore because I tried to get
compensation.

21. Thank you, Peggy.
I guess the ER visit was free. My manager rolled me down there because they wanted to x-ray my knee - which wasn't broken (Thank God!).
I'd really be screwed if it was because I don't have sick time or disability...

They were aware of the problem the first time and did not fix it. You were injured for a second time in the same manner. They are totally irresponsible.

I'm not a sue-happy type, but this sounds like real negligence. You could really be seriously hurt...That is not right.
