What the hell is wrong with people lately?
I am seeing people who normally are allies now sniping at each other. People seem to have really short tempers about things now, what is it? Is it all the snow, the shorter days. People getting a start on the bitterness that come along with the holidays? I go away for one day and this is what happens...sheesh!

4. Yes I work in a vent care facility.
Plus there still is this stereotype that being a nurse is not a "male" job.

control, right after they (Pratt and the redheaded doctor that I can never remember the name of) were making the stereotypical comments about male nurses.

FWIW, one of the best nurses I have had in my life was a male nurse. It was when I delivered our son and I cannot believe how much understanding and compassion he showed, and the care he gave. I wasn't even embarrassed, and I'm a girl who likes having a female OB/Gyn. :hi:

14. Well that is me
I am a big guy, and I can be Nurse Ratchet or I can be Florence Nightingale. I used to work with people with TBI's so I have lots of training on taking down people and dealing crazy patients.

21. I love working with guys.
I work in prep/recovery for surgeries and procedures - float to several different areas.
There are a lot of guys in ICU, PACU and GI Procedures. That's one of the reasons I like it.
One of the flip sides of the sexism thing that I've noticed it that a lot of patients give male nurses MORE respect -
so it goes both ways...

6. Hanging in there
one day at a time. Finally got into a pretty good groove with the band, can't eat a lot of things I used to, which is good. Anything from a fast food restaurant forces me to make a bee-line to the bathroom now because it gets stuck above the band. The downside is that I really don't like eating in front of people anymore because of that also.

16. I understand .
The psychological effects are hard to deal with at times. Hopefully you'll be able to manage your intake and not be quite to likely to have issues with it getting stuck. I eat like a horse! (lots of food, good manners LOL) People are always watching me and wondering where I put it all.

:)
hang in there.

20. My mom wondered that too
we went out and I had Crab and she was wondering how the hell I was eating that much. She was getting all worried, but I told her when you think about it, 1lb of crab really isn't all that much after you get done digging all of it out.

19. i think we/many of us have experience with problems in life, very few...
can be said to have lived a charmed, pristine, care-free life so that many deal with that in ways they know how, or have learned to while some just shut up afraid to voice one way or another for fear of further rejection perhaps; but when one group touts themselves above others as having a singular view of what life and it's ills are; or have foisted upon only them, in an extracurricular fashion, it discounts our commonality, undermines it when we are all marching toward what should be a shared goal...at least imo of course

from "Notes from a Chicana Coed"
by Bernice Zamora

"To give meaning to my life
you make love to me in alleys
in back seats of borrowed Vegas
in six-dollar motel rooms
after which you talk about your wife
who writes poems at home
about Pajaros, mariposas
and the fragrance of perfume
she smells on your collar.
Then you tell me how you
bear the brunt of the
gringo's opression for me,
and how you would go
to prison for me, because
"The gringo is oppressing you, Babe"

And when I mention
your G.I. Bill, your
Ford Fellowship, your
working wife, your
three gabacha guisas
when you ask me to
write your thesis
you're quick to shout
"Don't give me that
Women's Lib trip, mujer
that only divides us

and we have to work
together for the movimiento
and the gabacho is oppressing us"...

23. My guess?
it seemed like at the end of the summer there weren't a whole lot of people posting...that went on for a couple of months and now all of a sudden it seems really crowded in here. It may be because of the winter darkness and the cold and people being inside more, but there seems to be a lot more traffic in here the last week, and there is bound to be friction because of it. It seems when you are in a more crowded environment the blowhards have to blowharder to remain at the top of the pile where they feel they should naturally be and they are bound to step on some toes in the process, and I've noticed that a little in here lately. If that's grating, well, you asked.

It's disillusioning to keep reading this gay vs. straight dynamic in all these threads though, very disinhearteing, even if it's only implied. GLBT people are a very diverse group, but when you have *that many* come out of nowhere and post that a thread is offensive (and believe it or not, it wasn't an organized campaign to ruin all the hetero fun...at least I didn't get a memo)then it is probably a fair assessment that something is amiss. I think even though your header is a little aggressive, you are onto the solution, which is asking questions; "What is going on? I don't understand". And then of course, listening and really *hearing* when someone answers.
