I remember being 40. I was doing well and felt safe and secure. Bill Clinton was running for President, and it seemed he might win. My wife was 28, going on 29. In the mornings we exercised, in the evening we made love. Within a year of my 40th birthday we conceived our first son. I felt for the first time in my life, at peace, mature, devoid of puerile anxiety.

It was a good time, magic. My 40's were great.
