Sorry, now I see your point.I get a little (I don't know how to say it because English is not my native language)"sensitive" ? When talking about AIDS.
That man (My uncle )was a fantastic human being.
He was an artist. He did numerous theater plays and
some Canadian TV shows. He was a painter, and he was my friend.
He was HIV positive for at least 10 years an then he died, alone
in his appartment...That was a big lost for Humankind and I cried
like a baby when he died...

8. I work with HIV positive people every day. |
|
I do HIV health education. I've seen people die around me, but I can never relate to how a person feels losing a loved one to HIV.
With that said, your song clip was in extreme poor taste. The title alone is just horrible to begin with. No one gets tested for AIDS.
They get tested for HIV.

That is highly misogynistic.
Do yourself a favor and listen to the lyrics of this song. And in the future, heed my advice before you post something so irresponsible and offensive.

and the test is for HIV, not AIDS
I know that if you are a health care professional and you get stuck with a needle, they test you, for quite some time, if the person who they stuck was positive, or has a lot of risk factors they put the person on antivirals for a while to keep them from converting if possible.
more than anyone probably wanted to know, but you are right idgiehkt

12. No, people get tested for HIV. |
|
Specifically, HIV antibodies.
You don't get AIDS from someone. You get a virus, called HIV. Which in most cases leads to an AIDS diagnosis.
And one of three things mus happen in order for an AIDS diagnosis to occur:
1) CD4 cells drop below 200
2) CD4% drops below 14%
3) One or more Opportunistic Infections

14. I think that is a pretty minute point, frankly. |
|
Also, if english isn't the OP's original language it is entirely possible that the nuances of the song, both in terms of the lyrics and its musical appeal, escape him.
However I didn't listen to the whole thing because I didn't want to. Maybe there is something highly offensive in the second half, and I missed it.

Are you aware how stupid people are? You and I know the difference between HIV and AIDs, but millions do not. However puerile, the song is intended to convey a message to, apparently, the type of person that would find it to be a catchy tune! Again, that's not you or me.
I was only trying to support the OP, who I believe had no intention to offend. I apologize if it appeared that I was attacking you instead.

From http://humor.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.bobrivers.com/audiovault/tunes/Hello, I love you Let's get tested for AIDS You know I trust you But you can't tell these days Hello. I love you Let's get tested for AIDS You know I want you But let's wait a few days
She might look nice and sweet But sleeps with every guy she meets You might think you know some guy But you know guys and they always lie
Hello, I love you Let's get tested for AIDS You know I trust you But you can't tell these days Hello, I love you And liked to get laid You know I want you But I'm deathly afraid
She holds my hand and sighs But her hand won't satisfy Our thoughts are wicked But our legs are crossed And I doubt I can hold out too long
The doc won't know for at least a week I'm like a dog locked up when my mate's in heat And I hope she doesn't see me drool Cuz I hope to use my rusty tool
Hello, hello Hello, hello Hello, hello
Uh, Hullo?

Let's write completely crappy lyrics to a song that we couldn't even create original notes for.
There's no such thing as an AIDS test.
At least as progressives, can we learn this and get past it?

There's a difference between HIV and AIDS.
To be basic, there's no such thing as a AIDS test.
So why is title of the song about getting tested for something that you can't even get tested for?
When it comes to HIV/AIDS, wouldn't you at least want to have your facts straight before mocking it?
EDIT: spelling and grammar

But I'd fight far greater sources of misinformation before I went after a song parody by a relatively unknown artist that doesn't even get played on mainstream radio.
You may, of course, pick any battles you wish. I will not put you down for it. I just wanted to understand.

41. I probably should not step into this but.... |
|
i was surprised at the vitriol heaped upon Jeff here. not endorsing the song, it rates about a two on the one to ten scale for simple radio yucks but...
if we're going to get pissed at an AIDS-related topic, we should reserve some venom for the Bush Administration, which postured and propagandized that it would increase funding for AIDS research and treatment, then actually cut funding. And then did virtually the same thing for AIDS funding in Africa.
bottom line: when it comes to AIDS there are better reasons to get pissed off.
