A 1971 Sears Catalog from an estate sale
This lady created a wonderfully fun website from that catalog's offerings :)

Enjoy :)

1. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, my gosh.
I actually _owned_ the dress on the top right here. I dunno why I thought it was a cowgirl dress; maybe because I was only eight years old? My granny was a huge fan of Sears, and every year my sister and I got Sears dresses for Christmas. :scared:

Lots of fun looking at the wild fashions and toys.

9. Something is wrong with
her feet. The largest woman in the picture, on the right, has two different feet. I think one of her feet belongs to the woman on the top left.

14. Those were called hostess outfits, and women would wear them
when they had people over for brunch.

I'm not making this up.

36. Oh, yeah
My mom had a couple of those. She wore them when they had the neighbors over for cocktails, too.

38. Remember Palazzo pants :)
I had a pair of white ones.. took them on a cruise & dumped shrimp cocktail sauce in my lap:(

but that "miracle fabric" released that stain, even after being in my suitcase for a week :)

Oh, and remembering that my parents had some of the boxes featured in "Americana". Yetch.

On edit:I have now found WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many things I remember in person. Including some of the multi-striped rugs.
My mother had NO taste!

27. I had shirt #3 and my brother had shirt #4
We wore uniforms to school. But not to worry, I still got my ass kicked by my brother when I wore that shirt. Actually he kicked my ass regardless of what I wore. Fewer things are worse than having a husky sized kid dressed like a bumblebee beating the crap out of you.

19. Alas, we too used a "card table" for fine dining for a long time
and a "book shelf" that was made from stacked bricks & planks of wood.. (We married in March of '70, and were quite poor those days)

I never liked Sears clothing, but we had lots of those household items...

The prices in that catalog are something else too..

a side note:

I gave 2 of my sons a collection (had to buy it online) of Life magazines from the year of their births '73 & '78, and they were stunned to see that a Brand New 1979 Ford Fairmont cost $4576.00...

The funny thing is that we subscribed to those magazines and saved some for years, before finally parting with them, and now I paid almost $300.00 to "buy back" about 10 of them :eyes:

16. I worked for Sears for two summers, including the summers of
1970 and 1971. I remember a knit pants suit that looked as if it was made out of chenille, and all of us high school and college students loved it and wanted to buy it, but it was rather expensive.
