50 Cent launches race attack at Oprah
http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3886492a1860,00.html

The rapper believes the chat show host has allowed wealth, fame and power to change her as a person and has accused her of turning her back on her roots.

He said in an interview with Elle magazine: "She started out with black women's views but has been catering to middle-aged white American women for so long that she's become one herself.

"I think the idea of being publicly noted as a billionaire makes black women interested in seeing her views. But it's even more exciting to the demographic of white American women she's been aiming at to see that she has the exact same views that they have."

Oprah is one of the richest women in America. The talk show queen - who made $US100 million in 2005 - is worth a reputed $US1.4 billion.

50 Cent is one of the biggest names in hip-hop, with two million-selling albums and a stable of rappers employed on his G-Unit label.

2. 50 Cent's style of rap serves as a modern-day minstrel show for white kids.

They like to watch someone talk about what it's like to be a "motherfuckin' P-I-M-P" and portray other negative black stereotypes for entertainment. If you go back to the roots of hip-hop (which he's betrayed) or into stuff they don't play on pop radio like alternative hip-hop (Common, Roots, Goodie Mob, Kanye West, etcetera) you'll find much more consciousness, empowerment, positivity and affirmation (and possibly more controversy - let's see 50 Cent dis George W. Bush* on a live TV telethon) and much less gangsta and pimping hoes.

4. So I guess according to Fitty,
she is an Auntie Tom now? Because she is successful and does not wallow in her minority status, eh? What utter BS. Oh, well, she didn't make her money by being a crack dealer or calling others a ho or a bitch or whatever the in term might be. I'm not a big fan of Oprah, mainly because I am working when her show is on, but I give her the respect she is due...she worked her way up and deserves to be anyone she wants to be. She does not have to prove herself to anyone

6. If I had to bet on who knows better what it means to be a black woman, Oprah
of 50, I'd have to go with Oprah.

(As if there's just one set of views black women hold anyway.)

13. I don't get to watch Oprah's show on a
regular bases, but I've always thought that she did a lot of good and gives a lot of credit to black Americans. She has many shows that hight light the talents and productive things that black Americans have and have done. However, since people of all races watch her show she has to be diverse. She has topics on her show that are of interest and benefit every one who watches--no matter what their race is. 50 Cent is a rapper who apparently doesn't know how to be gracious enough to give someone their due when it is earned. Perhaps because he has not earned that kind of respect. I could give a rat's a#* what a rapper thinks that I have only heard of in passing now and then. If he made of list of what he has accomplished in his life and compared it to what she has---his list would looked mighty skimpy.
