Where Do They Steal Xmas Wreaths Off Of Homes? Why, in Fresno, Of Course! |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-02-06 04:14 PM by stopbush
I just finished with all of the holiday decorating yesterday, the last touch being to hang the lights and wreaths on the front of the house.
Woke up this morning to find our 36" lighted wreath stolen from the side of the garage. Yep. The wire suspending it had been cut. Who in the hell steals a Xmas wreath? Surely, it's not some family that wants to hang it on the side of their home, "come see our new wreath! It's stolen! Doesn't it look great?"
No, it was most likely some meth addict looking for something he could sell at a garage sale to support his habit. Fresno is the meth capital of the west. It creeps me out to think that scumballs who would steal a Xmas wreath are driving through my "good part of town but not-gated" neighborhood at night looking for stuff to pilfer.
At least it was only a wreath. I just find it ironic that we had no problems with such a theft when we lived in NJ (Soprano-land) and Sin City (Las Vegas). But move to CA's Bible Belt and look what happens.
I've lived all across this land of ours, and Fresno is the worst. place. ever.
I'm flying to the east coast tomorrow for a job interview in the Philly area. Fingers crossed to get the hell out of this cesspool.

4. No, it wasn't. Such a wreath in Fresno would get your house firebombed. |
|
At least they say "Merry Xmas" at the Wal-Mart. That makes it all better, and "more Xian."

9. I live about 100 miles south of you in the lower Sierra Nevada Mnts. |
|
We just hung our wreath on our gate along the road. I'm sure it won't be stolen. We will have a community Xmas celebration next weekend. We are encouraged to bring a toy or warm coat as a gift to the poorer folks in the area. None of us lock our doors at night and we wave hello to each other as we pass along the road. Ours is rural mountain community with a much slower and old fashion life style. There still good places here to live.

According to the book "Science Made Stupid", Fresno is one of the three layers of a black hole.
The three layers of a black hole are: Limbo, Escrow, and Fresno.
I've been to Fresno and I think the only redeeming feature it has is that it's close to Yosemite National Park.

13. Hey! Before you move back east... |

While I envy the possibility you might end up back in the city of my birth and therefore have an endless supply of cheesesteaks and TastyKakes (good luck on your interview by the way), you missed the chance here in rural Nevada. I live about 50 miles north (about 2/3 between Vegas and Mesquite), and we also have a fantasic lifestyle. Y'know, where you can leave your doors unlocked, and even leave your car running when you go into the post office. People band together to help each other...remember the floods a couple of years ago? The folks here poured into the local community center to fill sand bags. Great schools, low key lifestyle, people riding their horses on the side of the road...it's great out here. And the night skies are unbelievable, especially this time of year. If you have any connections left in Vegas, come give us a look!

15. I've had no luck applying for positions in Vegas. |
|
My experience with Vegas is that if you're not living there, you have almost zero chance at a job. Recruiters in LV tell me that NV employers "see CA as your residence and just aren't interested."
Truth be told, I did much better financially when we lived on the east coast. I do love the weather out here and the cool nights, but living in Fresno isn't like living in the good part of CA. I'm basically an urban guy, and living in small towns and ag centers leaves a lot to be desired, IMO. Screw the idiotic "heartland" values crowd and their medieval ways. I'll take the cities.
We love Philly and have tons of friends in the NYC metro area. I'm hoping this job is offered...and soon!

We may end up living in NJ again.
BTW - I've been interviewing in the SF Bay area to no avail. Lots of interviews, no firm offers. And, it costs $ to make that 3-hr drive from Fresno only to come up empty handed (6-7 hr round trip, depending on traffic). Tomorrow's trip to Phily will cost me nothing, whereas driving to and from SF usually costs around $60 with gas, tolls & parking.
