Socks for christmas present.... |
|
:sigh: once again my partner has put socks on her christmas list...
I refuse to buy her socks unless she's in the store with me.
Why? because the socks have to meet certain specifications:
1. no seam across the toe area or at the end of the toe area 2. has to be a poly-acrylic or something or other blend... 3. color has to match "EXACTLY" to whatever she's going to wear them with 4. texture of the sock has to be to her liking 5. elastic around the ankle part can't be too tight or too loose
in addition to these specifications, she also wants a heavy pair of wool socks for winter.. BUT the wool socks can't be wool because she's allergic to wool.. :eyes:
she's getting a gift card from SOCK WORLD or SOCKS-R-US
other gifts on her list are much easier to find

1. find the finest socks in the world, and buy 'em. |
|
make it your mission, do a worldwide search for the finest socks in existence, disregard the price, and give them to her wrapped up in a big box with a giant bow. Its the thought that counts. Get cracking because you've got research to do.
My dad used to always tease us that all we were getting was underwear and socks. We eventually found him some( burberry's I think) that were $70 and came with an owners manual.
she wants socks? I say get her some, but make sure they are the finest anywhere. The finest she has ever seen, much less owned.

3. Find someone who knits. |
|

Buy the yarn (a cashmere at $40/skein would do nicely) and have a pair knit for her. Specify that you want them knit 'toe-up'. (No toe seams that way)

If I didn't know better, I'd swear we were dating the same person. My darling partner is exactly the same way, but about *shoes*, not socks. I absolutely HATE going shoe-shopping with her, because:
All shoes MUST be black, no matter what the style. It is necessary to try on and reject EVERY pair of size-9 black shoes at least *once* before grumpily settling on a pair that "are good enough, I guess". Even slippers and sandals must meet RIGID standards of excellence and comfort, but may not cost more than $15 or so. "Breaking in" shoes/boots is a disgusting myth, to her. If they don't fit like a fluffy cloud dream from the very beginning, they're obviously evil and must be destroyed.
Oh, I feel your pain. My beloved can spend HOURS trying to buy a simple pair of walking shoes. And *I'm* the girly-femme one!

5. don't get me started on shoes |
|
shoes are even worse than finding socks...
- brown and/or black only - sneakers have to be white - toe thing problem - size is always a problem - she's between a boy's large size and a woman's small size - no heels - has to be totally comfy from Minute-1
when we go to buy shoes or socks - I bring a book and find a place to sit

6. But... your partner is right. Shoes should never, EVER hurt; they should fit |
|
properly and they must be comfortable.
I have 'princess and the pea' feet as well through no fault of my own, but from damaged nerves and broken bones, so I know what I speak.
Sadly only the best, top quality, most expensive shoes are wearable for me... so I buy wisely and rarely and wear some of them for 2-3 years.
But the $15 thing is a deal breaker for me. My favorite slippers cost $60 and I love them with all my heart.
