I have a mini canker sore. Owie. |
|
I always get one right after a certain guy uses my baritone saxophone.
I really need to stop this. LIke, put my foot down, or lock it up where he can't find it. Why do we only have one mouthpiece for three bari saxes?! And it's the one I bought?!
What really pisses me off is the guy that uses it is the guy I have a crush on.

More down than up, really. Much respect to you for learning a new instrument - even more for you learning two.
I hope you are well. It sounds like you're pretty happy.

3. Canker sores aren't usually contageous |
|
But I find Zilactin is the best treatment for them. Stings ALOT when you put it on, but forms a seal over the sore so nothing gets into it and irritates it further.
also, maybe you could spray the mouthpiece with some kind of anytiseptic before you use it.
(oh, and, hi MMR, long time no see...)

5. That's what confused me... |
|
I don't have access to the antiseptic because it's usually in the middle of band when he feels the need to borrow it.

8. Carry a small bottle of gel hand sanitizer with you |

But, be aware, cleaning the mouthpiece after he uses it (especially with a cleaner of some sort) is one of those things teenage boys might see as non-conducive to a crush (if you know what I mean).
Still, he'll get over it and, if this is what is causing the canker sores, they should stop.
on edit: make sure you dry the mouthpiece after you apply (shouldn't take more than a minute) - those gel sanitizers are alchohol based and can sting and taste bad.

10. Abreva is for cold sores |
|
Not canker sores, there is a difference.
Cankers can be caused by everything from bacteria (staph A I think, same as foliculitis - infected follicles) to cuts and abrasions. Topical analgesics and oral antiseptics work best for these (zilactin, listerine, et al).
Abreva is for cold sores caused by the Herpes virus.

Oh, and putting your foot down about lending out your mouthpiece! Give him the bari sax, minus the mouthpiece! LOL

12. I suffer horribly from those. But, I found THIS works. |
|
On the day I got married I had 33 in my mouth. Yup, 33. I was so miserable, we had to postpone our trip to Paris so I could recover.
That being said, a TERRIFIC cure/treatment is erythromycin solution, (NOT THE ACNE stuff, but the stuff they give little kids, swish and spit AND Lidocaine viscuous).
They are both Rx, but ask you mom about asking the doc for them. It works absolute miracles. And, I've suffered with them for over 40 years.
