Please explain this line in the new Jay-Z single to me. |
|
The second verse is mostly about how he's nicer to the ladies than other guys. Then it takes a sudden shift and he briefly talks about how all the pretenders to his throne must vacate said throne due to his coming out of retirement. However, the flow of the rhyme is interrupted by this final line:
"Y'all got less than 2 months to get y'all thing together. Good luck!"
Why two months? What the hell is he talking about?

1. I love it when hip hop artists talk trash |

THe great thing about that line is, since the song will play indefinitely (I guess, somewhere. not on my iPod - I hate Jay-Z) and it will always refer to some point in the near future making all of his threats in the song absent of any weight. If he has a date or event in mind the obscurity makes the meaning lost (as it is on you, and apparently me).
(is the sarcasm smiley necessary? if so :sarcasm:)
Its like they don't think about these things and just string words together that sound cool. Of course, we could assume that those for whom the line is intended know what he is talking about and are quaking in fear of this mysterious event.
It would be nice if hip hop artists could sing about something other than themselves and how much better they are than everyone else doing the same thing they are doing. The only redeemable distinguishing quality to Jaz-Z's "music" is the video I saw with Danica Patrick and Dale Earnhard Jr racing in a Ferrari and a Zonda. Despite half way cool racing photography the song made me so sick I had to turn it off.
I am at a loss as to how this guy got as popular and loaded as he is.

2. When did he record it, 08 November 2006? |

:eyes:
Dunno. It's not music when it's a 'beat' that a 2 year old can duplicate while talking one's self up - again, like how any 2 year old can do.
Old school rap (Queen Latifah, Public Enemy, et al) had some social commentary that gave it some stature while being innovative with the music - it was richer and more fluid back then. Nowadays it's a sampled pre-defined note on the $20 Casio keyboard that a 2 year old could accomplish.

4. Actually, the musical backing for the tune in question is quite complex. |
|
It's not just a "Casio keyboard" backing. It combines elements from "Shaft In Africa," some other tune I forget the name of (an Afrobeat tune) and a Public Enemy song. On top of these elements are live drums, piano and organ. While the rhyme on top may be crap, the backing track was actually quite a complex creation.

3. Maybe he wrote those lyrics to say that at the time... |
|
whoever is on top of the rap game now (2 months before Jay-Z's album was released) has two months and then they are done - he is back.
