Attention Holiday Shoppers!
Don't be a dumb-ass, rude jerk, asshole or all around moran when shopping this season.

Oddly enough if you are pleasant then your shopping experience will be a more pleasant one and more likely than not you will receive better service.

Also you would do well to consider that the clerk with the icy smile plastered to his/her face is in fact attempting to provide you with the best service possible under the worst possible conditions.

Have a heart, smile, say please and thank you and your day will be much brighter.

This message brought to you by the Association of the Retail Workers of America Who Are This Far From Leaping Over the Counter and Clawing Your Eyes Out. (R.W.A.W.A.T.F.F.L.O.C.C.Y.E.O.)

Thank you for your consideration. You may now resume your regularly scheduled posting.

2. Not only that
Edited on Sun Dec-03-06 09:38 PM by cwydro
but the poor clerks have to listen to Christmas music ALL DAY ALL SEASON...Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh.

Now, don't get me wrong, because I do like Christams music...but not ALL DAY LONG.

Anyway, I'm always nice to people who are helping me.

7. I work retail,
and the music is about to drive us all crazy. I, like you, enjoy Christmas music, but the stuff they play is hardly music.

8. I saw a bumper sticker in town that cracked me up
It said, "Show me someone who works in retail and I'll show you someone with a deep abiding hatred of the human race".

9. I think "hate" is a strong word.
But I have a lot less faith in the people in this country and understand how Bush got elected to a second term. People in this country are stupid!!

3. I was damn polite last Sunday.....
when the upscale women's clothing store at which I had just purchased more than $200 in gifts told me they were out of boxes and suggested that I return the next day. I even remained polite when I told them that I lived more than 10 miles away from the shopping center I was in and would be about 25 miles away from it the next day because it was a work day. Guess they saved $$$ on me by not having boxes.

It wasn't easy.

6. Well, thanks for making the effort
Just try and keep in mind that the person you were talking to more likely than not has absolutely no control over how many boxes the store has and is put in the uncomfortable position for having to apologize for someone else's fuck up.

10. I know.....
but it was damn impossible for me to go back the next day. And it should not have been suggested. The person didn't apologize, just figured I'd have the leisure time to do as she suggested.

Which was screamingly funny. I was not one of the dressed-to-the-nines shoppers there who do have the leisure time, but wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

4. I used to work retail
A real friendly customer can really release some of the tension out of an overworked retail worker. It just kind of acts as a reminder that everyone is not batshit crazy. I always try to be nice to retail workers, especially this time of year.

14. Amazing what that one courteous, quietly respectful customer can
do to lift one's spirits. I haven't worked retail for many years, but I remember it so very well. I strive to be that one courteous, respectful customer--I hope I succeed and if not me, then I hope others can be.

17. well you'd like me
I was behind the lady being a total bitch to the retail clerk and I piped up with, "SO....are you always a bitch or only when you are shopping?".....she stormed out and the clerk doubled over laughing. :D

13. I spent four years as a customer service manager for an upscale department store, so yes I am
extra nice to retail personnel. I know what's like to be on the front lines during the holidays and it isn't pleasant.

15. And please, please, pretty please hang up the clothes you try on!
I work at Macy's (formerly Marshall Field's) and the fitting rooms are just a nightmare. I just can't understand why people can't take 45 seconds to put the clothes back on the hanger. It seems that more and more people just leave everything on the floor in a heap. Also, if you are shopping and accidently knock something off the hanger and it falls on the floor, bend over and please pick it up. Our clearance racks are just disastrous. There is always a huge mess on the floor and people just step right on or over it. We in retail will be much happier if you pick up after yourself. Maybe then we would actually have the time to help you when you need help picking out something.
