Know any good ones? I always want to send money when I see those commercials on TV about poor kids around the world, but I'd rather not donate to a religious charity.

2. No way

Thanks for your input but I don't like that organization at all. Animals are not products and the milk, eggs, meat, etc. they could get from them are not healthy food items. In addition, animal agriculture is destructive to the environment and far less efficient than plant foods.

I'm looking more for something that improves sanitation or education or something like that.

3. your decision, obviously, but

I use it to benefit a small village that is near to my heart. The people appreciate the animals. In fact, I just managed to get a private donor to give the village and it's surrounding families 500 chickens this year.

4. Bringing large-scale animal agriculture to impoverished nations
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 12:04 PM by jilln
is one of the worst things we could do for them. Not only is it inefficient, but they have enough diseases without having to deal with heart disease, cancer, diabetes and all the things that come with animal foods.

I do appreciate that you took the time to answer but there is no way I would ever donate to such a program. I should have been more specific in my original post.

6. Point taken.
Maybe you should look into engineers without borders....
http://www.ewb-usa.org/index.php

A friend is organizing a project in Africa, but they do have S. America projects as well.

I see below someone mentioned doctors without border, also a great organization.

Good luck, and I hope you find the right program.
Peace.
