What do all you singles do for New Year's Eve?
I'm kind of tired to watching the ball drop at home all by myself.

My friends are all coupled off, and even if I didn't mind being the 3rd wheel, most of them refuse to commit to anything early enough for me to make plans for when they inevitably leave me high and dry.

I thought of a singles dance, but then realized that the singles will probably be all 20-somthings, and the music will be the music the 20-somethings enjoy.

1. Good question!
This will be my first single New Year's in many years. I suspect I'll be taking your place and watching the ball drop at home.

2. I have my own party
This year will be the 4th annual New Years party at my house.

I used to not do anything, although I was asked to go places here and there, but I didn't feel like going out. 4 years ago I said I was just going to stay home and have my own party. Some people came over and we had a great time. It has grown each year and people talk about it all year long..lol.

I am single, but I liked sitting home alone on New Years. Now I still sit at home, but a lot of people come over. We have way too much food and drinks, we all gather in the studio and jam and everyone is welcome to crash if they can't drive home.

17. I'd invite people and get the standard RSVP
"I'll have to see what else comes up."

I never get "yes, I'll come" or "no, I'm busy" just "we'll see" and then no one shows up.

It is very hurtful to hear that reply. It always sounds to me like they're waiting for a better offer.

3. I usually do nothing.
I'm not a big fan of New Year's Eve. I don't even bother to watch the ball drop.

4. I have, married and single, always taken New Year's off and read
a book or something else like that.

I have no great wish to be out on that night. I do go, every once in awhile, to a low key party that MrG's cousin throws...but kids are invited too. It's a family thing but two matches have been made there that ended in a 5 year marriage (so far) and a 2 year marriage (so far). You can come on over to my house and sit on the couch and watch the ball drop in fuzzy pajamas or something.

Some of the music that 20 somethings enjoy is pretty darned good. :D

6. the local "oldies" station (60s and 70s) is having a party
but it's not a singles party... and I can't see spending $40 to have dinner surrounded by couples and then have no one to dance w/ or hug at midnight.

Maybe I will come to your house..... It's been a while since I've been out of town for pleasure.

7. MM, you know the door is always open for you.
I was just thinking about when we first started moderating and how much fun it was. Back when there wasn't so much stuff to moderate. :D

And, contrary to popular thought, there's some really cool stuff to see and do in Detroit. :hi:

8. I've almost always stayed home by myself.
NYE is a big "reflective" period for me every year ... lots of self analysis and a bit of an inventory of areas I've improved or fallen in. It's a yearly introspective regarding my life.

10. around here, every bar and restaurant has a New Years Eve celebration
many of them cater to older crowds. I know the place I've played most of the last decade is kind of a boomer bar.

I usually work New Years Eve, but this year, my holiday gig calendar was almost entirely wiped out, so I don't know what I'll be doing . . .

16. OK!!
I've decided that since I'm starting a new exercise regiment in January and the 1st is a Monday, the "start" of my workout week, I'd rather go to the gym that morning, just avoid the DUI drivers on the road.

20. I usuall y get dragged over to my sister's house
It's her husband's birthday that day and my parent's usually show up and foist Clausmas presents on me.

But it's been different through the years. When I was in Wisconsin where I had friends I would goto various parties - non drinking parties mostly since the local radio station had a big 'trivia' contest on that night and sometimes people wanted my help.

Then too when I was working at the bar I really used to dread that night because it would take me about nine hours to clean up the bar, and then they kinda opened early the next day for the accursed bowl games.

BTW when I was in my 20s, various singles activities were invariably populated with many many women in their 60s.

21. Last year I was a judge at the city's New Year's Eve Masked Ball.
I've never had a worse time. Staying at home with my personal bottle of bubbly will be far preferable.
