my first reaction was that it was the same sort of red-state crap that Toby Keith puts out (or that nasty Lee Greenwood shit) but decided to give Mellencamp the benefit of the doubt because he's always been the working-class farmer's hero (very anti-corporate).

Then someone here posted the full lyrics to the song. Mellencamp doesn't need the benefit of the doubt. He's a-ok in my book.

But that truck is a great truck for people who have to haul stuff, move stuff and basically need a truck to do their work, so I guess that ad is aimed toward them....

However, they make suburban guys who want an aura of masculinity to surround them salivate and so these guys gfo out and purchase a F-150 that they don't really need...

We complain a lot about the Republics "taking" the flag, etc. They didn't take this ad, though; some people are giving it to them.
