3. Simple...
cook whatever she wants and clean everything.

You DO know how to sort laundry, don't you?

4. clean only what is absolutely necessary
bathroom and kitchen.

If you can get help from others w/ the cleaning then take them up on it (when someone asks if they can help--say YES).

Make some homemade spaghetti sauce w/ meatballs, and freeze it in meal-sized containers. You can defrost what you need and cook some pasta to go w/ it as needed.

Soups also freeze well.

I like to make swedish meatballs and freeze them.

I also make up a big skillet of stir-fry (usually chicken and veggies) and a big pan of rice and make up individual service "rice bowls" which freeze well and go straight to the microwave.

If there's anything I can do.... (I can't travel right now as I'm sticking nearby to help an ailing family member.)

5. CB, any chance you can get a relative or two involved?
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 03:44 PM by Radio_Lady
We were in this situation in 2000 for a whole month. Luckily, there was a mother, and a stepmother, and a grandmother who helped carry the load.

Do you have anyone available? Could you afford to hire a person to help clean perhaps just once a week? Anything would be helpful at this point.

12. Sorry to hear that, CB. How about churches, social service agencies, home care?
-- I don't know where you live, but there MUST be somebody willing to help!

6. Dude, let me know if I can help you guys in any way.
Bed rest isn't as much fun as it sounds. I did it for three months with my first.

7. Oh dude you are about to get worn out
I did the exact same thing. You are going to have to do every single thing. I am not saying that my wife was lazy she tried to do somethings but there was no way.... Good luck. Let me know how it is going.

8. Oh...I forgot to say...
whatever you do, try not to hover. You might be completely lost, but don't tell her that. She's going to be bored and irritable and scared...be attentive but don't cross the line into hovering.

11. When you cook, make double and freeze the extra.
Make a big pot of spaghetti sauce or soup and freeze a bunch for example. Same thing with take-out. Order twice as much and freeze the leftover pizza or chili. Keep the side dishes simple: bread and butter, apple slices, green salad - easy stuff. Don't make yourself crazy if dinner is pancakes or scrambled eggs - stay flexible!

Can you afford a cleaning lady once/month? You can keep it clean enough between the major scrubdown if you get someone in to go over floors, carpets and baths thoroughly at least once/month. Relax your cleaning standards - your wife's health comes first!

This is a great time to lounge around in bed with her so make sure you give yourself a lot of time for that! :P
