Oh, I hated that too!

DVD's are the way to go, these days!

But back in the day, laserdiscs were the only alternative to videos!

6. you either saw the movie in the theatre or waited
two years until it was released on a broadcast channel that you got.

You had to adjust the rabbit ears to get the channel it was on. Sometimes you had to hold the rabbit ears depending on the weather!!

and therefore throws out a lot of data during the compression process.

Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 05:01 PM by spillthebeans
So you don't have macroblocking effects like in fast Scenes of DVD. ( You sometimes see pixel blocks)

But you have effects like they happen with vinyl, dust and scratches can cause problems ( digital technology has error correction)

9. You know you're old when...
...the clothes you wore in high school are trendy again

...the furniture you bought for your first apartment is now charmingly "retro"

...you remember when Bob Barker had brown hair

...you remember a time when people didn't mock the lyric "don we now our gay apparel"

...you start any sentence with, "When I was a kid..."

...you wax nostalgic about the good old days and ignore their not-so-good parts

...you know the names of the stars of Hollywood's Golden Age without having to Google

...you remember life before Google

...you remember that encyclopediae used to take up a whole bookcase

And we still kept receiving yearly updates until 1998. Even today, I still find them useful, relevant and handy when you want a background for researching something. I hope they’ll always be in my collection

The World Book encyclopedias, BTW, were what truly motivated my interest in American history, politics and culture and also my love for general history and biographies -which is my main passion in life today

They passed through all my older siblings before the came to me. The photos were black-and-white! What eventually happened to them -- I think -- was that some stranger bought them for a song when my parents sold our house. We lost a lot of cool stuff that way. $#!!@ parents!

What is Estrace?

Estrace is a form of estrogen. Estrogen is a female sex hormone necessary for many processes in the body.

Estrace is used to treat symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, and vaginal dryness, burning, and irritation. It is also used to prevent osteoporosis in women and men. Estrace is sometimes used as part of cancer treatment in women and men.

69. I've always looked about 10 years younger than
my chronological age, and I get it all the time. I've thought about just pulling out the old saw that 'a lady never reveals her age' just for the sole purpose of not having to hear the inevitabe commentary that I look 'good for my age', lol

65. You know you're old when ....
you still listen to 78s on a Phillip's phonograph

you remember when a long distant phone call was a big deal

you remember when people sent telegraph messages

you remember when women wore seamed nylons and men wore fedoras (and you know what a fedora is without looking it up)

you watch a Christmas Story and sing along with the Little Orphan Annie theme song

your parents wouldn't let you watch Elvis Presley on the Ed Sullivan show

you can't deal with an Ipod

79. People think your kids are your grandchildren
you marveled at your Wealthy Uncle's "Automatic Dishwasher"

you remember Mr. Zip urging folks to use the newfangled Zip Codes.....

But, mostly, you know you're old when you feel like you're old........

85. ...your smart-ass 18 YO niece
Sees an album-I mean PHONOGRAPH RECORD-on a turntable
and asks, "how could you POSSIBLY listen to music that way?"

Also instead of looking for a new, hip joint, you need
a new hip joint. Or, instead of wishing for a BMW, you'd
be happy just to have a BM!

90. OK....my dear crim son, and my dear WIMR.....
Laserdisks......They were disks that look a lot like an old-fashioned record....you know, a platter!

Black vinyl, except that recorded on them were movies, not just sound.

They had to be turned over too.

They had superior optical qualities as compared to VHS tapes.

OK?

Hope that helps, you two!
