A clerk in a store who recognizes that there are about a dozen different holidays during the Holiday Season and therefore says "Happy Holidays!" to her customers.

2. Speaking for myself--neither. The former is common-sense courtesy,
the latter is quite funny.

And I AM a devout Christian.

5. Yes, we are devout Christians with a sense of humor.
That's a funny picture and a good poke at the commercialization of Christmas.

9. I don't mind people wishing me "Happy Hollidays"
or "Season's Greetings" or something, but I get annoyed whenever I say Merry Christmas and someone goes off on me. Happened twice over the years, and one of those times, the guy who didn't take was not even the person I was talking to. Get this, I wished a Merry Christmas to a friend of mine, back in the University. A person whom I happen to know is Christian (Catholic). Then a guy, sitting not too far from us went off on me, telling me that I didn't respect him. He even left the party, angry as hell.

Of course, I may have said a few things after that to make him even angrier. I not sure

10. I am offended by neither, and found the picture to be very funny.
I emailed it to my sister, because I know she will think it's funny, too.

12. Looking at the artists other works....
I don't think it's meant to be funny, exactly. But neither offends me.

I personally don't care how a store clerk greets me- I'm not there for the social interaction, so even a borderline-curt "S'up?" is acceptable for me. If they want to say "Merry Christmas," then who am I to complain?

13. Thank you!
As a store clerk, I can't tell you how annoying it is to have people go off on you for whatever you say - you can't win with some people. If I say "hi", they're offended because they feel it's not sincere. If I don't say "hi", they're offended because I'm unfriendly. If I ask if they need help, I'm intrusive. If I don't ask, I'm unhelpful. If I wish them a good day, I'm snapped at because it's "artificial." If I don't, I'm unfriendly again. If I say, "Have a nice holiday," I'm anti-Christmas. If I say, "Merry Christmas", I'm anti-nonchristian.

I'm just trying to do my job, treat people politely and help them purchase what they want to purchase. I wish more people would treat the whole thing as you do - it's not a social interaction.

16. I think everybody should be required to work retail for a few months...
Once you've been on that side of the fence, you're not likely to take out your frustrations and/or agenda on some innocent store clerk. It's a rough job, trying to please everyone- especially this time of year, where people get meaner and nastier as Christmas draws closer. I don't miss that chapter of my career, but I feel for ya, Skygazer, and I take every opportunity to offer patience and understanding to store employees (up to and including smackdowns on jerk customers, when necessary!)- Hope the season isn't too trying on your nerves! :grouphug:

14. I have had it up to my eyeballs with people being "offended"
by "Happy Holidays."

The level of arrogance, entitlement, and superiority is nothing short of mind-blowing.

18. I am a devout Christian
Catholic in fact and, to be completely honest, I am not offended by either. I find that painting is so funny I can't stop laughing.

If anything it really exemplifies the idea that commercialization is overpowering what the true meaning of Christmas is. However, I think that may the point that was being made by the artist.

That or he/she were just making fun. Either way I find it hysterical!

lack a sense of humor.
