This should work better than Ambien: |
|
I'm tired and want to go to bed, but I'm afraid that if I do, I won't be able to sleep, as happens frequently.
BUT: It's 25 degrees out there tonight. In about 15 minutes, I'm going to take off my sweater and socks, and go outside in just a T-shirt and a pair of pants. I'll stay out there and read my book for fifteen minutes.
When I come back in, I'll be so cold that I'll have NO choice but to go directly up to the nice warm bed that has the nice warm Mrs R in it, because we don't heat the house to much over 60 degrees in the winter. (We like the house to be cool, but that won't cut it after my cold-soak.)
What do you think? I'm betting it will work.

8. No, I'll stay a foot or two away from her until I thaw; I'd never put her into the |

Nightly Full Clinch (yes, we still do that after 16 years) with cold hands & feet.
That would be beyond cruel.

Just don't try to get it on, you'll probably be fighting a recession.

7. It works even better when you risk frostbite. |

Adds that frisson of the risk of permanent maiming.

6. I think it's a good way to lose a toe. |

The last thing somebody who's about 75% scar tissue needs to do is spend more time than needed in the cold. Try a hot bath and something a bit dull to read, instead.

9. I'm absolutely NOT 75% scar tissue! Maybe 70%, tops. |
|
But you may be right. Various joint siezures could result. And we DO have the hydrotherapy tub upstairs.
I need to give the some thought.

...have you tried just lying in bed, with all the lights off, and closing your eyes...and thinking pleasant thoughts? It usually works for me. But, then again, I won't ever try to go to sleep until I am nearly exhausted.

16. Thanks, but that doesn't work for me. There are just too many thoughts, and given |
|
that thoughts inevitably turn to memories, and the preponderance of memories being less that pleasant ones (I had 36 mostly dreadful years before I met Mrs R after all), they crowd the good ones out.
But a nice suggestion anyway.
