Talking Heads were not genius but rather f**king brilliant geniuses - discuss
Listening to a Talking Heads Greatest Hits CD I downloaded last night. I have all of their stuff on Vinyl, the band had an amazing sound and David Byrne (another May 14th birthday person like me) was absolutely brilliant. He has such a unique voice.

Anyone else a fan of the Talking Heads? If they did a reunion tour I'd be there in a heartbeat!

23. eh eh ehhmmmm
Pittsburgher here. ;)

No, it's not NYC or SF, but it's a great place to live if you actually want to buy a house you can afford, go to great Universities or work for cool research institutions.

Our weather is a different matter, it is like a swamp in the summer. But otherwise, it can be very nice.

It's nice to see that they've moved on with their lives and are doing other things.

I never get tired of watching Stop Making Sense

7. Well, I'd hate for them to become another Rolling Stones...
..I can't stand the Stones, I think they've recorded themselves into mediocrity with all the crap they've put out since like 1983.

But it is nice if once in a blue moon a great band like TH gets together for one last tour - remind a new generation of folks just why they were so brilliant!

29. Yeah, me too. Especially the songs "Puzzlin' Evidence" about
all the evangelicals, and "Hey Now" which in the movie is a comment on suburban sprawl.

I've never seen a movie that's so funny and creepy at the same time!

Both seminal groups of the 1980s. "Stop Making Sense" is one of the greatest concert films ever.

But Robert Plant still sucks.

27. If they did a reunion tour, hell would freeze over...
but, like you, LynneSin, I'd be there with bells on. Talking Heads is one of the greatest bands of the 1980s -- not a prime time in rock history, admittedly, but they're still great. You've seen Stop Making Sense, I assume.

Somebody get this guy a tailor

Although Byrne is largely retired from touring and all that, the Tom Tom Club still occasionally tours. While its not Talking Heads, it is a pretty fun time.

28. Fear of Music
Was the first Talking Heads album I ever listened to.

I brought the cassette home from the local library, thinking, "hmmm, this looks interesting." When I put it on, two minutes into "I Zimbra," my older brother threatened to beat me up if I didn't take "that SHIT" off of his stereo.

I knew I was onto something good.

30. "Damn that television ... what a bad picture"!
"Don't get upset, It's not a major disaster".
"There's nothing on tonight", he said, "I don't know
what's the matter"!
"Nothing's ever on", she said, "so ... I don't know
why you bother."

We've heard this little scene, we've heard it many times.
People fighting over little things and wasting precious time.
They might be better off ... I think ... the way it seems to me.
Making up their own shows, which might be better than T.V.

(CHORUS)

Judy's in the bedroom, inventing situations.
Bob is on the street today, scouting up locations.
They've enlisted all their family.
They've enlisted all their friends.
It helped saved their relationship,
And made it work again ...

Their show gets real high ratings, they think they have a hit.
There might even be a spinoff, but they're not sure 'bout that.
If they ever watch T.V. again, it'd be too soon for them.
Bob never yells about the picture now, he's having
too much fun.

(CHORUS)

Judy's in the bedroom, inventing situations,
Bob is on the street today, scouting up locations.
They've enlisted all their family.
They've enlisted all their friends.
It helped save their relationship,
And made it work again ...

So think about this little scene; apply it to you life.
If your work isn't what you love, then something isn't right.
Just look at Bob and Judy; they're happy as can be,
Inventing situations, putting them on T.V.

(CHORUS)

Judy's in the bedroom, inventing situations.
Bob is on the street today, scouting up locations.
They've enlisting all their family.
They've enlisted all their friends.
It helped save the relationship,
And made it work again ...

32. I went to art school with David, Chris, and Tina.
though for a long time David just hung out there, he wasn't really enrolled.

I said "There's a guy going nowhere!"

Shows what a perceptive judge of character I am! David and Chris were in a college band called the Artistics, David was the lead singer, and doing what I thought was an imitation of Neil Young.

Anyways, they moved to New York after graduation and started some band. I also heard that David was taught guitar by another classmate, Gus Van Sant.

I saw them at the Greek in '83, one of the best concerts I have seen. Jonathan Demme was at the same concert, and that is where he decided to make the movie "Stop Making Sense". A good movie, but the concert was better!

Tina Weymouth was talking about how she would play bass so hard that he fingers would bleed and everyone would cheer when blood started rolling down her pick guard. That's fucking intense.

34. Brilliant geniuses!
I've been a big fan since "More Songs". I lived a few miles from where "True Stories" CD was recorded in Sunnyvale, TX. Never saw them but I did see David Byrne in concert at the Fair Park Band Shell in Dallas. When we were just arriving, the band was still rehearsing. We heard "Psycho Killer" on the way to our seats before the concert even started. The best part of the show was when they had started the intro to "Burning Down the House" just as the wind picked up and a thunderstorm was edging nearby. They never stopped the show and it didn't rain but the gusts of wind and lightening and the music had everyone charged.
Also, just downloaded the first Tom Tom Club, which I'd had on vinyl but was destroyed. Glad to have it back.
