I look just like her, except for my teeth, cheekbones, and jaw.... :P I have the same kind of attitude, we have a similar sense of humor (mine is a bit more crude). Difference I guess would be that I still party, and she quit partying around the point she got pregnant with me.
I don't know much about my dad, but I have a LOT of differences when it comes to the dad-who-raised-me.

14. My mother and I are very similiar |
|
Both animal loving, vegetarian, liberals. I also inherited the depression/anxiety gene from her (THANKS MOM! lol) However, she cares more about appearances (not physical), just how others perceive you. Now, of course, I do care if people like me (especially people who mean something to me). But I don't fret over making a good impression everywhere I go. She is also way more outgoing than I am. Oh and she is religious.
My dad and I are alike in our politics, religious apathy, and alcholism (THANKS DAD! lol). We differ in that he has a short temper, talks a lot about things no one is particularly interested in, and would live on his sailboat if he could.
I can't wait to see them for Christmas though! I miss them very much.

My father was a good man. He's deceased, but he was a good dad. My mom makes me look like the biggest shit anyone could ever take. Now, if you asked her, she'd say that she tries to be like me (health-wise, largely). However, my bench press doesn't begin to compare to the strength that this woman has. Heart, mind and soul, all I am I owe to her, and I'll never be as good as she is, was or will be.

Mom - She was an awful, abusive parent that always seemed to be competing with me in some way. She's very judgemental, loves Bush, and has a great deal of difficulty relating to anyone that doesn't reside within her little bubble.
Dad - He's a good, solid democrat but more "old school" and concervative in his thinking. He's not very communicative or open, and he LOVES to argue.
I hate to argue, am not competitive, am very liberal and seem to have a knack for connecting well with people from all walks of life.

My mother used to bottle all her anger in (my temper has mellowed a lot over the years). She never took any time for herself, didn't identify her as anything except a mother and wife. She took way too much crap from my father. She was also very religious.
My father was/is an abusive, controlling, misogynist asshole. He lives in a small box where he control and know everything - he is intimidated learning anything new, and would rather not risk looking like he didn't know what he was doing. Big fish in a very, very small pond.

1) I'm childless by choice (which means if my parents had done this, I wouldn't be here...:P).
2) My choice of professions is different, and I will probably begin working on a doctoral degree within the next couple of years. My mother holds two Master's degrees in difficult subject, but she decided not to pursue a terminal degree because she had small children. My dad has a bachelor's degree.
3) My father is a recovering alcoholic, and I have thankfully escaped the alcoholism gene.
4) Although I look very much like my mother, my personality is completely different. Mom is a Type A personality, but I'm very laid back and definitely not Type A.

My Dad isn't a real deep thinker. He lives pretty much for today and doesn't contemplate life very much. He's not dumb but he is not at all interested in the philosophical aspects of this bussiness of living.
My mother is the opposite of him;Drama Queen Extraordinaire!
I'm somewhere in the middle of those two personalities.

My Dad's 6'4" and my mom's 5'0.
I'm also not as laid-back as my Dad or as high-strung as my Mom.
I guess I'm just a middle-of-the-road hybrid.
They're both very liberal and intelligent, but I'm alot goofier than either of them (or my sister). I'm the family weirdo.

To both of them, children were something they could look down upon and feel superior. Only children grow up, which then became a threat to them.
I stopped living with the incubator at 15. She was a screamer. I used to get yelled at for using what she considered "big words". And never once since did she ever try to make contact with me. No money in it. Also, narcisstic, spending all her time in front of the mirror doing her hair. Time handed out a little justice. After spending all her adult life in a cloud of hair spray marked "inflamable" on the can, she caught skin cancer and died. I refused to make an appearance for a made-for-TV deathbed reunion.
My father was the lesser of two evils. Though he didn't want me going beyond high school, and ranted against college education until smoking caught up with him.
Luckily, I had a cool grandmother whose influence probably detoxified my parents. Though I have a sibling that turned out a sociopath.
Physically, I've been told that I resembled my father. Just a lot taller.

At 49 I have already out lived my dad by 4 years. I don't have diabetes, am not blind, and don't drink anywhere near the amount of beer that he did. I also do not have his math skills or his temper.
I have more education than my mom, but not as much common sense and practical knowledge.

43. My father was a conservative Republican. My mother was a moderate Dem. |
|
My mother could and did vote for Republicans sometimes, something I never did and never will do.
My parents were Christians and I am an atheist.
My parents are dead and I am still alive.
My parents were good looking when they were young - but I am extremely ugly.
What they tried to teach me about politics didn't stick, but what they taught me about being parents did stick. As a father, I am trying to live up to my father.
