Saw "The Departed" today .... |

Another fine acting job by Jack Nicholson. He does it so well that I wonder how far off-base these characters really are for him?
Art imitating life, perhaps?

Ever read this book? It's a very interesting semi-gossipy overview of the Golden Age of Hollywood during the 1970s. Nearly every big figure from that period (Scorsese, Spielberg, Coppola, Lucas, Beatty, Hopper, etc.) is trashed at some point in the book or comes off not looking like a very good person.
However, throughout the course of the book, no one EVER has anything but the nicest things to say about Jack. It seems that he's not really very much like his characters...

4. No - I haven't read that book (or heard of it) - I'm going to the library today |

and hopefully will find it. Sounds intriguing. Nicholson's performance in this movie is outstanding - I think he definitely deserves an Oscar nod for this. He is one of the few actors today that I watch who makes me believe in his onscreen 'character'. All the time you know you're watching Nicholson - but he morphs into his character so well that you forget you are watching Jack. I can't say that about too many actors today. Thanks for the 'heads-up' on the book. I've always heard the stories regarding his womanizing - I remember something a few years back about him hitting the windshield of another car with a golf club? Oh well, we all have our moments. :hi:
