Does the film "Pleasantville" have an alternate ending? (SPOILERS INSIDE!)
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 11:26 AM by Brotherjohn
I watched it last night for the second time. I saw it when it first came out and remembered I didn't particularly like the ending; I thought it just went in an unexpected direction w/ no reward, with a real mixed/bad message.
(POSSIBLE SPOILER: Like maybe the town reverting to B&W b/c it was "for the best"?)

I saw it again last night, and (while not ground-breaking) it seemed better, and I think the ending was different.

SPOILER: It ended with everyone and everything turning color, and the town opening up to the world (at least other places in their world, as Reese Witherspoon stayed in the TV world to go off to college in a town outside of Pleasantville). It seemed much more positive then the first time I saw it.

I must be getting senile, 'cuz it wasn't THAT long ago (or maybe it just didn't stick b/c I didn't like it first time around).

3. I think it's pretty good as I saw it last night,; a bit simplistic, but a clever...
... take on a common, worthwhile, theme.

But I swear, the more I think about it, firts time around, the town stayed B&W and Don Knotts sent them BOTH home, and I was left wondering: "So why did any of this happen?"

The DVD DOES apparently have an alternate ending.
