4. That is why its not on DVD |
|
I was just gonna say WKRP (ya bastich). But yeah, the reason its not on Disc is because its locked up in copyright land. When the show was first made they only secured rights for broadcasting the songs. Now that there is all this hoopla about copyright the show is locked up in limbo.

21. they can use that great stuff in commercials because it's gone into public domain, right? |
|
But there's a stink about one of the best shows ever? How sad is that?
BTW, Az--it is damn good to have you back! (I thought I'd give a :hi: to you in a thread that didn't involve the "C" word, if ya know what I mean!)

is there a public domain for contemporary music (meaning last 50 years or so?)

53. Unfortunately copyright law is pretty messed up |
|
Basically the copyright owner can keep pushing the date back. They can effectively push it back 96 years before a song enters the public domain right now.
This is a crime IMO considering the intent of the copyright laws was to allow the creators and producers some time to profit from their work but it was to enter into the public domain and become a public good. This never happens any more. Don't expect to see that 96 years stand either. There are constant legal battles shoving it further and further back.

I understand that because of the soundtrack and the money required to obtain permission to use that music for mass-production in the DVDs--this one may never make it to DVD.

Look at the outrageous price on that! What a gip....I'm glad they got them out, but 90 bucks a season for a half way decent cartoon, what a rip off. There is no way I'm paying that much for it...guess I have to play the waiting game and get it when its around 30 bucks....alas, something for me to look forward too....:D

I'd kill for It's Garry Shandling's Show.
And really, what's the hold up on the rest of Larry Sanders? I can see "It's Garry Shandling's show" getting possibly overlooked, but not LS.

I think they should do a "best-of" compilation similar to that of Saturday Night Live, e.g. - best of Stephen Colbert, best of Jon Stewart, best of Rob Corddry, and so on...

Would love to have it on DVD, but they used period music in pretty much every episode. I don't have much hope for it coming to DVD anytime soon because there will probably be a LOT of wrangling over the music rights. :(
