Is there such a thing as good tasting non-alcoholic wine?
I was becoming a bit of a wine snob. I love the taste of heavy reds, like Shiraz or Syrah etc. So now that I'm not drinking, I was wondering if anyone has ever found anything that a least tastes like wine and not grape juice. I tried a sparkling red last night that was...well sparkling grape juice.

I've found a few tolerable non-alcoholic beers, but wine was my thang. Vodka was my poison that ruined it all however. lol

Any recommendations or is it a lost cause?

a little wine leads to a lot of wine which doesn't seem to be good for anything. lol.

15. the longer you stay sober, the less you'll want that taste
IMHE, "non alcoholic" beers and wines AREN'T (check your near beer, you'll see it still has a small percentage of alcohol)

If you were a drunk like me, the slightest amount of alcohol in my system triggers the cravings and at some point you'll be off the wagon

good luck!

PS I have the same problem with substituting for wine in recipes. It's taken a while in the kitchen to make my sauces and soups come up to speed

24. don't get me wrong, if I hadn't had a couple near beers a day for that
first few weeks I would have literally died (or had a major stroke)

the DTs were awful and that tiny bit of booze kept my body from going into shut down. I had a constant headache that lasted weeks. the oldtimers in AA finally convinced me to check my blood pressure at 12 days sober

it was 285/190 :wow:

But by the Grace of *inserthigherpowerofyourchoicehere* I woulda been dead

my next door (38 year old) neighbor who was a bad drunk actually stroked out driving home from work one day and he's still a mess.

alcohol is the only drug you can DIE from detox

so take care of your self huh?

28. Well I'm lucky in that
I never got to that point. It was a short period of time that I was self-medicating myself with alcohol. It could have become a much bigger problem. I stopped because I could see where it was going and it was interfering big time with my depression and anxiety meds. I'm happy and relieved that I do not have a physical addiction to alcohol (no withdrawals). It is an emotional one. I need to stay away from it while I am recovering from my depression.

Thanks for sharing your experience and your well wishes.

I've been thinking about you.

I like sparkling cider - the non-alcoholic kind. It's not really like wine, but it's tasty.
I don't like beer anyway. I love vodka - but I've had to give it up recently because my
stomach is acting up. So you have my sympathy! :-(

I'll have to try the sparkling cider. I do like regular cider. It just won't be quite the same though. LoL. I do like beer, but don't/didn't drink it much because of the calorie (belly gut) factor. Plus it makes me pee like a race horse! hehe.

Vodka...ahhhhh sweeeet smooooth vodka. *sigh*

45. Clausthaler
They use a different process than most makers of n/a beer, who remove most of the alcohol during the brewing process. Clausthaler starts from the beginning to make a non-alcoholic brew, and you can taste the difference — it tastes like a good light beer. I don't care for the aftertaste, but ya can't have everything.

Kaliber and Buckler aren't bad, though Kaliber is too dark for me. Coors Cutter is passable.

I can't really remember now. I buy it when my dad comes to visit (he's a recovering alcoholic). He usually buys the cheap stuff, so when he visits I buy the most expensive I can find... I'm sure Oedi will give us some ideas.

36. Drink Some Sparkling Water
or sparkling grape juice like you said.

or drink the house wine of the south, iced tea!

as for non alcoholic beers, O'Doul's tastes fair, but it reminds me so much of beer, I would drink one and be waiting for the feeling to kick in

There are lots of things to drink that aren't alcoholic, you just have to find something that you like and make it your drink!

Hang in there, it's a tough deal, but it ain't the end of the world!

40. I live on flavored seltzer water
In fact, my ever present liter bottle (Polar lemon atm) is at my side. I carry it around the house like it's my baby bottle. heh

I'd just like to find something to drink when out socially (hahahahahaha like that ever happens!) or on special occasions. I do know that I have a bottle of n/a champagne in my pantry that's been in there for at least two years. So at least I have New Year's covered. LoL.

Thanks!

41. Anytime BNL
It can be a struggle when it's on your mind to have something to drink and not be conspicuous.

Since I have had no life for a while I don't know what to do other than just be myself and it doesn't bother me to drink something different than others drink.

I remembered just now (actually made me kind of sad) that at my wedding we drank sparkling water in champagne glasses.

So long ago, and so far away as to be almost someone else's life when I think about it. I have no idea where those people who got married 17 years ago went.

Oh well, like I said, anytime. I'm so glad you are back!

43. Yes, It Does
you know, not everything is bad

it's like, I just wonder what happened to that couple. They aren't around

But on the other hand, I'd rather be happy and if that means being alone, then so be it.

I'd rather my son had happy parents, whether they are together or apart.

so, another day goes by, and it's like "the sands of the hourglass" as the world turns kind of thing.
(I can remember my mother always watched that soap opera when I was a kid)
