Day three without a cigarette. It's getting better. But the headache is killing me.
I had quit smoking 12 years ago.

Out of foolishness and drunkeness, I started again 3 months ago.

Within a WEEK I was hooked and back into it big time.

I am ashamed and amazed at how fast I became attached to this ball and chain.

So, I am on day 3, moving onto day 4. I get rid of the patch tomorrow because I just don't need the nicotine in my system any longer and the longer I wear the patch, the longer I am hooked on the nic.

I have really struggled with this. But, my lungs are already starting to clear themselves. It's amazing howmuch crap accumulates in your lungs from a mere 3 months of smoking.

I can't drink my morning coffee because it sends me into a nic fit. I think that's where the headache comes from.

But man, would I LOVE a cigarette right now.

1. are you in caffeine withdrawal?
That causes a horrible headache. I've never experienced a headache with nicotine withdrawal, but I do with caffiene. (I've quit smoking over and over and over and over...I think I've been free of it for about 4 years now).

I'm kind of a chocaholic and I get on these jags of eating chocolate and then I have to go off of it, just like a drug. When I do this, I take aspirin for several days. No kidding. I never take OTC stuff or any other kind of medicine but the caffeine withdrawal headache is excruciating and it's best for me just to head it off at the pass by taking aspirin before it even hits. I don't have any other caffeine intake besides chocolate, like tea or soda, so when I stop eating chocolate I get hit with it big-time. If you are avoiding morning coffee remember you are in withdrawal from two drugs instead of just one.

3. Yes, I think I am. I only ever drank one cup per day, but it's still enough to cause
a headache.

I did have a cuppa tonight...a strong cup...and it seemed to help.

Downside is...I'll be awake for hours upon hours.

5. it's a pain
I've withdrawn from caffeine so many times with a whoppingn headache just because I was too stubborn to take a stupid aspirin. Now, as soon as I go off of it, the next day I take aspirin. I think it takes about three days, just like nicotine. The caffeine in chocolate is such a drug for me, especially this time of year with the darkness and stuff.

2. Headaches are terrible. Hang in there.
Would No-Doze also cause a nic fit? Because if not, you could take one of those just to get a little caffeine in your system.

6. Jeebus, I hope so. I can NOT believe how I fell into this trap again.
Not one. Ever. Again. Never.

It started with one, when I was out on a girls weekend. Just one.
3 months later, I had another one with my brother who is a smoker, around the beachfire.

Then, I went on a cruise and bought a pack...and that was all she wrote.

and let me tell you - 12 years is amazing - most of us fell a lot sooner. I discovered that extreme stress would set me off - like the death of my brother, bush "winning" elections - I got wise and now every time I have a crisis I buy myself some patches - yes INDEED.

I don't think you need to reset your clock for one slip - if the subject of smoking comes up you can honestly say __ years, with one three month slip. YES.

10. I did take some Tylenol this evening and it took the edge off.
Normally, I am an Advil girl. But Ty seems to work better for these types of headaches.

8. You can do this, Beausoir
You have five beautiful reasons to quit. ;-)

Would drinking herbal tea in the morning help at all, or would this trigger the same response as drinking coffee?

We're all behind you. I know you'll get past this.

13. I quit cold turkey 8/29/05 after 22 years of smoking
I had smoked from age 11 in 1962, quit in 1974 and started again in 1983. This time I was like a stick of dynamite. Any little thing would set me off and make me psycho angry.

But then the craving went away. My sense of smell came back about 8 months ago everything tasted different. Coffee, which I loved since I could remember, tastes bad. I stopped drinking it. I haven't had a morning cup in months. I can deal with it in cold drinks like a Dunkin Donuts Turbo Ice, but otherwise, I hate it.

I don't run out of breath anymore climbing my 34 steps to my front door, I can walk a couple of miles before my legs hurt, and when I yawn I can take a full breath again.

I had a chest xray a few weeks ago. Lungs are clear, and compared to an xray of 6 years ago, they seem larger to the eye.

My daughter had asked me for years to quit simply so I could see her grow up.

I finally realized it was worth the "sacrifice".

Oh, and I saved $11.00 a day. Not a bad trade off. Made for a great Xmas last year when business was good.

You done good. Good luck Beausior.

You can do it.

15. everyone is different
I smoked longer than you, yet I did not notice anything like you said - my sense of smell or taste did not get better and since I had always exercised, I could still swim across lakes while I was smoking. Yup, I did it for the money and because I thought, being young and stupid and smoking is one thing; a smoking geezer is just pitiful. :)

16. have a can of cola
and give yourself a big pat on the back. Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things I have ever done, and here you are doing it for a second time.

Hold on to this quit... if you must do something ridiculous when drunk, try streaking.

17. LOL. Considering I am a rubenesque middle aged mom, streaking would
truly be ridiculous.
Makes me giggle just thinking about it.
