when baking, make sure to have all ingredients  Double check your groceries list when writing it the evening before. Esp. when it is after 7pm (keep in mind, I live in Germany, stores generally close at 8pm here) and the first store you go to doesn't has what you need x( In my case sweet condensed milk. So I had to take the underground downtown to go to another store to get it

for the Christmas party at work today.
I know I know Key Lime Pie isn't really a Christmas pie but I don't think a lot of people here know that and it is the pie I know how to make without problems. Well, except you forget something :eyes:

I hope it came out good. But normally it does. I'll see tonight. And if the people don't like it, even better, then I can take home the rest of it and eat it all myself :9

6. Oh goody, Cooking advice...Here is mine: |
|
Always understand that a "clove" of garlic is but a section of the "bulb" of garlic. When the recipe calls for 3 "cloves",...... yep learned that one the hard way my first time...nope did not even try to eat it... on the plus side: house had NO problems with vampires for awhile.

I have a chicken recipe where there is 1 bulb of garlic asked for. You fill the chicken with it. And with grapes. But you cook the garlic first. Pretty good actually.
At least the vampires stayed away

That actually sounds good. My fiasco happened when I was much younger while trying to fix dinner for a girl I was trying to impress... she got impressed alright, she never let me do the cookin much after that!

28. She did run away...8 years later. |
|
But she rarely let me cook unsupervised after that. Actually I put that poor girl through much more hell than that...even tried to take her camping on a ridge 2 miles away from Mt. St Helens, yep THAT weekend. Went camping elsewhere and lived to tell the tale, her Volkswagen van didn't. (I related that tale in a different thread yesterday...hmmm, wonder if her ears are burnin...guess I should stop)

7. used to be an old American tradition |
|
that you could knock on a neighbor's door and ask to "borrow" a cup of flour or some eggs. But in America we have Wal-mart or 24 hour quick-stops where you can get most of those things.

19. That happened when I made the pie the last time |
|
After 8pm. Between 9 and 10pm. Actually a time I would never ring the bell at another apt. But I was desperate. I only had 4 eggs (the recipe asks for 4 eggs) and I killed one. Couldn't use it. I had to ring the bells on most other apt. in the house I lived till someone opened and had eggs. One family didn't eat eggs at all(???), another one just had beer (student), others weren't home.

24. I don't eat eggs at all either |
|
but I bake them into my cookies as the recipe calls for.
I'm sure leftymom knows something else I could use. Maybe I should try it, but I am guessing it would be hard to find and expensive. And probably be an acquired taste. I did, however, stop using vanilla and do not miss it.

Honestly, that was one of my least favorite things about living in Germany, that I couldn't just run out at 11 pm to get what I needed! Bah! LOL.
Glad it worked out ok, though :)
