Would somebody please explain today's "B.C." to me?
I know what today is, but the humor escapes me.

1. It's the author whining about how those DAMN DIRTY JAPS
sell cars here. Apparently he thinks we should've glassed the entire country; this is not surprising, since the author of this "comic" strip is a right-wing racist loon.

2. The B.C. cartoonist is a bit to the right of Darth Vader.
I think he is suggesting we should still be hating the Japanese for Pearl Harbor, but we don't only because they make a lot of cars. He's an idiot.

5. The usual from the right-wing...
"B. C." 's creator has become a fundy "Christian," so in this strip, he adds a slam against imaginary "political correctness," even though the word is used every year today, especially when FDR's speech is played or printed.

7. Holy CRAP is that inappropriate.
Pearl Harbor day = "A day that will live in infamy."

Apparently it's not "infamous" anymore because the Japanese car industry is thriving. :wtf:

9. Toyota has very well built autos.
I drive a 95 and hubby drives an 89 neither ever had a major problem. I guess the guy doesn't understand how many of those cars are also built in the US by US citizens.

11. I was thinking the same thing re: where they're built
I think Honda builds a lot of its cars and motorcycles here in the U.S., too. Hell, even Harley-Davidson's aren't 100% American wrt their parts.

It's not as uncommon as he seems to think, either. I drive a two-door Dodge Stratus, and it says "Dodge" on it but it's basically a rebodied Mitsubishi Eclipse--the interiors are identical, even. (Dodge is part owner of Mitsubishi, iirc.)

Walker's an idiot.

12. The message I got from the strip was that Americans who
purchase and drive Japanese cars are stupid, because they have apparently forgotten all about Pearl Harbor.

I don't know why I'm surprised, though. I'm aware that Walker is racist, and I usually skip over B.C., but this one caught my eye.

Sometimes, I think B.C. belongs on the editorial page, like Doonesbury.

18. Johnny Hart is either senile, a stroke victim, or just plain nuts
I wouldn't put too much stock in his crazy drawings. BC was great in its day (like, 30 years ago), but now it just represents the scrawlings of a madman.

I think this strip is a dig at buying Japanese cars. I'm sorry, but I bought a Honda that was manufactured in Ohio a few years ago, and I financed it through a company in Texas. It's one of the best cars I've ever owned.

I really think Johnny needs to look at placement in a long-term-care facility.

So the strip is moronic on more than just one level.

24. To spell out the intent of this racist strip
He is stating that we should still hold the Japanese in contempt due to Pearl Harbor. He seems to be stating that the reason we no longer hold them in contempt is because of greed due to the fact that Toyota has become an economic powerhouse and we want a piece of it.

28. Sent This:
Given today's strip, I wonder what you think of those of us who own German cars?

The fact is that we no longer live in a time where we are the attacked nation we were in World War II, we are now the attackers.

I wonder if an Iraqi cartoonist will do a similar strip about American automobiles in 65 years.
