3. OMG! London DUers, please check in!
:scared: I had not heard that until I read your link. Thanks for posting that, texas1928. It happens so rarely in the UK that I'm sure it came as a total surprise.

6. since when do tornadoes hit London?
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 01:00 PM by Reverend_Smitty
that's friggen bizarre

on edit: the story references a tornado that hit London in 1091, so I guess that kind of answers my question

8. They said that they usually get 20-30 a year.
but usually they are in rural areas. and do not really hit anything.

26. British tornadoes are generally too genteel to hit things
They just grumble a bit and dissipate.

29. LOL!
There was one a few years ago in Birmingham that hit the headlines, and I can remember one in the late 90's just outside Sheffield but by and large they aren't exactly all that much to write home about over here.

I'm in North Essex. It's still very bizarre though. The weather here has been pretty grotty all day. Let's hope it improves for the weekend!

17. Near the center.
Man, that is very rare. They are lucky not more than 6 people injuried. I am surprised there are no deaths.

18. Actually, not so near the center
London is huge and spread out, and the tornado hit about seven miles from the center, according to my tourist map.

Tornados are incredibly destructive, but fortunately, they have a small range.

24. Not so rare, apparently
The UK has the largest number of reported tornadoes for its land area in the world as cold air from the Arctic meets warmer, tropical air from the equator. Around 70 tornadoes were reported across the UK in 2004 and 2005, with 40 this year.

27. They said on the weather channel here on average yearly...
it was 20 to 30 a year. I think any land mass can have one just depends on the conditions at the time. I just live in an area that we get them all the time.
