Do you like or hate holiday banquets and work parties?
I've got to go to a fire department dinner tonight. I loathe these things. I REALLY REALLY do.

Maybe I'll win a door prize.

*sigh*

3. I don't mind people...I just hate the pretensions
A speech about this. A speech about that. Barbecue and potato salad, followed by an unidentifiable desert.

And the chief's wife acting like Merry Miss Priss.

Aaargh! Will you be my date? I'll give you my salad, and we can laugh at the civil defense guy.

:P

11. Hell no. I'm wearing jeans, a sweater, and cowboy boots.
There's no booze. We'll have to sneak out to the car for a nip or two.

Then we can drive up to the casino and people-watch to our hearts' content. Lots of fun subjects to watch there. :D

2. Hate the office parties
I don't really like anyone I work with enough to hang out any other time of the year. The only way to have fun is to drink, but then you end up drunk and get busted hitting on the boss's wife or starting the macarena.
It's a lose- lose.
But show up, smile, shake the boss's hand say something to at least two other people then leave. At least you will be remembered by a couple of people. Then, go out while you are still dressed up and the night wont be a total loss.

4. No booze at this one.
:(

I'm telling ya, I'd rather stay home and watch a rerun of Magnum P.I. or Who's the Boss--it's that boring. :(

5. is the party for the chief and his assts or for the firemen?
It's a big difference. I used to volunteer and the other guys were way cool, but the suits sucked.
Good Luck

12. Firefighters (of which I am one) and their families.
A few suits there. Mostly firefighters. Unfortunately, the suits dominate.

:(

Thanks for the good luck wishes. :hi:

Southern Baptist (except for some of the younger ones). I'm just hoping that a preacher hasn't been invited to do a sermon.

Aaargh! I'm really thinking about cancelling.

office and that is all I need. I have no desire to socialize with the others, to be honest.

18. I hate all that stuff
I never go. I hate the meals they have during work hours where you have to bring food. I hate donating to buy people's presents for birthdays and showers. I just hate being forced to spend money on people outside my family and loved ones, I hate it, I resent it, I despise it.

And I don't like it very much, either.

20. Love work parties- we have the good sense to do 'em during work hours.
So, get paid, eat free food, chat with coworkers. Sometimes, if it's a really special occasion we get superb food at a local swanky place. Oh, yes. Those latter type of functions are things that people schedule out of town meetings around if at all possible.

so I like those parties.

As for any Christmas party, I don't always like them.

Depends on who's there.

22. I don't like work parties
Invariably, I end up going to DH's, at which we're expected to make small talk all night, and be dressed up while we do it. We just went to a hotel with a bunch of his co-workers recently for a training seminar weekend. We got stuck at a table with two of the more annoying people I think I've ever met.

I like holiday parties with friends.

Julie

24. Detest.
I really don't need to spend one more fuckin' minute with those people. I work 60-70 hours a week. The last feckin' thing I want to do is be forced to dress up and go out with those assholes and their asshole spouses, especially when I could be with my friends and families during the holidays.

But.....I'm not bitter.

25. I like the people I work with,
at least the vast majority of them. I don't like the idea of work parties, though. There's one on Sunday afternoon/evening and I'm not planning on going. Just the idea of going to someone's house that I don't know and standing around making small-talk with people that I've seen around but also don't know...

it's uncomfortable.

Besides, I've got baking to do. And shopping. And cleaning. And there are two other holiday parties...one on the 18th and one on the 20th. Those I can deal with...they're just food things.

I'm gonna bring tamales on the 20th.

26. HATE! The boss takes us all out to a Steak House.
Everyone gets to order $150 prime rib. I'm a vegan. There's not a damned thing there that I consider worth eating. The whole place smells like a retched.

People in the office have been bugging me with questions like, "Why can't you just eat normal food for one day?" And, "If you ate a piece of that prime rib, I'll bet you give us this vegetarian crap."

If I don't go they'll insist it's because I'm the one who's antisocial. x(

27. Hate.
Hate hate hate
Especially dh's.
I'm introduced to 100 people in the first 10 minutes, while the loud music is playing (I have slight hearing loss, I do a lot of nodding while not having a clue what is being said) and I'm expected to not only remember their names for the rest of the night, but to pretend they are my best friends. :eyes:

30. LOL
A gorgeous Christmas floral arrangement.

The music? It was ok--but they didn't do any Christmas songs. Just a lot of contemporary gospel stuff with a little witnessing between songs. And I'm an antsy person, so sitting still is very difficult for me. :(

Fortunately, when some of the guys excused themselves midway through to go smoke, I walked out with them. :D

Oh, and our families were invited to this thing, too...and my mom also won a door prize...a Christmas arrangement just like mine.

So, all in all, it wasn't too bad.

I never attend the ones held outside of work hours. My employer has its Christmas party during work hours, but my husband's employer has its holiday party after work hours so he never attends.

35. We have great holiday parties at our office. I am fortunate to work
for a small general contractor and we have a great boss and the employees genuinely like each other. Our get togethers are very informal, we fix our own food (which is great) and generally have a great time.

36. Hate and avoid
I do not particularly want to know many of these people outside of what I have to professionally. I despise "mingling" and pretending to be interested in listening to some idiot I couldn't care less about yak on and on and on about the cute little things his cat does or the ulcer that just won't go away. Guess what? I DON'T FUCKING CARE. I'm not going to pretend to care. So leave.
