I'm considering giving Hallmark ornaments to everyone on my |
|
shopping list this Christmas. Is that a good idea? Would you like to get an ornament from your sister/aunt/cousin?

And there are so many themed ornaments these days it's almost easy to customize them to the person's unique interests.
I used to work in an office where everybody celebrated Christmas, twenty of us, and most people got everyone else something small as a Christmas gift. What I did was to buy a few boxes of different, pretty ornaments (and at least one box of "masculine-ish" ornaments for the guys), and then tape a lightweight garland to the breakroom wall and hang the ornaments on it, with a note for my co-wortkers to choose an ornament they liked. Everybody loved that idea and it was a pretty cheap gift per person, too.

3. That is a really good idea for the office. I may do that this year. |

I'm always trying to think of something for everyone that won't break the back and this may be it. Thanks.

I've been collecting for I think 18 years now. They know how to hook you...once you start collecting a series it's hard to stop. Anyway, I think it's a nice tradition to start a series for someone and get the next one for them each year.

5. Yes! I have given them for gifts on occasion, and |
|
people always seem pleased with them. I think it's a very thoughtful gift. I have been collecting Hallmark ornaments for years!

7. i would not have always thought it a good idea |
|
in the past, unless it was something from or made by my kids (you know those hand painting ornaments they always make in daycare and school) i never thought an ornament was a particularly special gift. i like to decorate in my own style :-)
however, recently i have had reason to pay more attention to the hallmark ornaments and they really offer a vast array of choices - i think you could find something for everyone/anyone. and, if you have any of the recipients offer you a "polite" thank you, you could tell them to leave it in the box for a couple of years and it will become a collectible. i've recently acquired a few older "mint in box" hallmark ornaments that would in no way enhance my particular christmas tree - so i've put them away in a place my kids can find them after i die to boost the profits at the estate sale ;-)
the problem with ornaments as gifts is that they generally are not good until next year. if you open the gift on christmas, sure, you can put it on the tree, but it is really past the tree decorating excitement.
so, yes, i think it's a good idea. but if i got a hallmark ornament as a gift from my aunt/cousin i would probably put it away forever as a collectible. (if it were from my sister, it would probably go in the christmas box until next year and then go on the tree, because hey! - my sister knows me and my christmas tree, and she would only get it for me if she knew it was perfect ;-) )
