What Movie you've seen in last 2-3 Weeks would you recommend for
Family Entertainment that perked you up? Or, what other movie that wasn't too violent did you enjoy that you think other DU'ers might enjoy..those over 30.

Thanks....

I saw your joke thread.

It's what I was sarcastically refering to with my "Birth of a Nation" gag.

13. Sounds like you're where I am.....We seem to keep walking out of the few
new movies we try. But, watching Turner Classics inside gets to be a little confining when one used to be able to go out and find a few good ones here and there....way back, maybe.

I've seen all the "indy's" that have come. I was looking for something "lighter" with a little plot...not asking for much. Nothing in my paper seemed to do it...and I figured maybe I missed something since we have a crap reviewer.

16. ok it was more like 3 months ago but still very enjoyable
"Over the hedge" starring Bruce Willis, Wanda Sykes and Steve Carrell, very funny and a great message about taking care of the environment. I thought the whole Bruce Willis thing might ruin it but it did not, he was great.

24. I'm huge Bond fan seen them all over and over. This one didn't do it for
me, though. Tried it last weekend along with "Happy Feet" and walked out of both of them about 45 minutes into it. :-(

I'm getting picky and my nerves are frazzled....

29. Casino Royale - fun for the entire family
if they're over 13, that is.

Easily the best James Bond film since the Sean Connery era and arguably the closest Bond to the novels.

They toned down the gadgetry and replaced the CGI crapola with actual stunt-work. No invisible cars here.

The fight with the two henchmen in the stairwell is equaled only by Connery's fight with Robert Shaw in From Russia With Love.

And no bimbos, either. No Denise Richards playing a nuclear scientist. No stupid Christmas jokes.

Finally a Bond film that even critics love, over 90% positive according to over 170 reviews cataloged by rottentomatoes.com.

First film since V for Vendetta that I plan to see a second time before it leaves the theaters.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Vesper: Am I going to have a problem with you, Mr. Bond?
Bond: No, don't worry, you're not my type.
Vesper: Smart?
Bond: Single.

I was surprised that I liked this movie (was on TV last weekend). But you have to like Jack Black's schtick (I do).

34. "Bobby"
I think it is a great movie, though for those of us alive and who remember when we heard he was dead, it's a difficult movie to watch. However, it is worth it, and further, it would be a good movie to take your late-teenaged-and-up kids to. I took my 26 year old daughter to see it, and she was so impressed with RFK that she posted the speech they play at the end of the movie on her blog, to share with her friends in her age group.

A very uplifting, positive movie with several excellent performances. A little sappy and predictable at times but overall it was quite rewarding.

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0437800/

P.S. It should be available to rent, we got it from Netflix.

Sappy and predictable is okay if the story has such wonderful positive messages conveyed. ;)

36. Lassie (the new one that came out just recently)
Now out on DVD:

GORGEOUS cinematography in Scotland and the Isle of Man. Terrific acting by all (Samantha Morton and Peter O'Toole are in it). A compelling journey-of-1,000-perils story with cute kids and a plucky dog that you wish you could own yourself. (Unlike various other versions of Lassie, this dog doesn't do things like pilot airplanes. She just acts like a real dog, albeit smart and resourceful.)

The whole family just loved it.

(RE: violence: There is a dog death in it, and it's kind of sad, but it's not exploitive. Really little children might find some of Lassie's challenges scary.)
